Verizon, in its recent 8-K regulatory filing, announced it had record smartphone activations in the Q4 2012.
The carrier saw 9.8 million smartphones activated during the period, mainly thanks to a "higher mix of Apple smartphones."
Impressively, the company said it "expects to see 2.1 million retail post-paid net additions during the fourth quarter."
Just one day before, rival AT&T announced it had activated 10 million smartphones during the quarter, citing Apple and Android devices as the sole factor.
Verizon and AT&T are fighting for the top spot in the U.S., with Verizon having a couple million subscriber lead and a wider LTE 4G network.
