5.2.  DC++ and Direct Connect
DC++ is an open source P2P client that uses the same P2P network as Direct Connect P2P software. Together they form a Direct Connect network of hubs.

DC network differs from other P2P networks significantly, as it has been modeled more on the basis of IRC network rather than a de-centralized file-sharing network. This means that there are specific hubs within the network that aren't necessarily interconnected to other hubs at all. Also, each hub can define its own rules and access rules -- many bigger DC hubs require a certain amount of shared material from new entrants and also might require a minimum bandwidth, such as minimum of 2Mbps connection, before a new member can join the hub. Hubs also have "operators" that can kick out users at will and can also ban them from entering the hub altogether, so behaving "correctly" is much more important in DC network than in other common P2P networks.
