Sony reports profit but PlayStation division continues to lose money According to Sony's latest financial figures, the company is now profitable. For the quarter, Sony had revenue of over $16 billion USD with a reported profit of $808 million USD.
However, the PlayStation division of Sony, otherwise known as Sony Computer Entertainment, reported a heavy loss of $237 million USD although revenue was up 60 percent.

For the period, Sony shipped 2.7 million PS2s, 2.14 million PSPs and 710,000 PlayStation 3s. In total, for all three systems, Sony shipped 46 million games, with the majority being for the PS2.

According to the New York Times, Sony was helped greatly by the large box office sales of Spiderman 3 as well as other hits during the quarter as well as continued growing sales of LCDTVs and HDTVs

For the rest of the year, Sony hopes to ship 10 million PS2 consoles as well as 11 million PS3 units. Sony also hopes to ship 9 million PSPs, which was Sony's highest selling system for the month of June and which is being remade soon as a "lighter" version.

That's why you can read reviews from people who have bought from the seller.

Exactly! If you buy from a dealer that has a good rep., there is a excellent chance that you will get what you ordered. I buy stuff off e-bay all the time and have never gotten stuck with what I didn't order or got something that I didn't want.

So you are saying that if you cant buy it from a local store so if you break it you cant return it without telling them you broke it modding it....weak.....

edit
and yes if bought new from ebay they will replace it.
the thing abotu ebay is they have 2 or 3 levels of dispute/complaints that make it unprofitable to cheat people.

What do you expect when the PS3 is priced so damn high?

1628.7.2007 21:09

Sony is lucky that it has the PS2 and the PSP also to make money plus other avenues otherwise the PS3 is just a hole and sooner or later they may end up closing the ps3 production if losses continue.

I doubt it they will fight tooth and nail to keep the brand going altho they might dump it by 012-014 for a more balanced PS4.

I see sony going another 3 or 4 billion easily on this but over all the can absorb it, the only question I have left is when we sony stabilize a solid price drop (anything blow 500) and what devs will jump ship until the PS3 stops floating loped sided.

i dont think you understand. they price it high because they are taking a loss. if they dropped the price they would take a much much bigger loss. thats obviously why they are so reluctant to drop their prices.
