Best Buy launches video sharing service

30 October 2007 21:14 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 10 comments

Best Buy launches video sharing service Best Buy has announced that they will be launching a video storage service where customers can upload and access video files for a price.

The service, dubbed Best Buy Video Sharing will start at $6.97 USD for a 100 minutes of video hosting with a 30 minute cap per video. There will also be premium plans for extended lengths and additional storage capacity.

Best Buy said the service was created through a partnership with the UK-based streaming video host provider Mydeo.

"Many customers don't want their personal memories available for anyone to see in the public domain nor do they want to share them in a cluttered environment that includes advertising,"
said Kevin Winneroski, vice president of Best Buy. "Through Best Buy Video Sharing, customers can safely store their videos and share them only with the friends and family they choose."

The service will complement Best Buy's current digital music store and photo center which were opened last year.

This is yesterday's news. Multiply.com is a similar website. This is a shocker to me. Bestbuy?

Bestbuy is doing it probably because it costs them nothing to do. From what it looks like they are just reselling another company's product...

Awesome, will our ISP's throttle this as well?

Someone educate me. Are Youtube videos accessible to everyone? I've never uploaded to YouTube. Seems like Best Buy will have some sort of password service where only family and friends you give the password to will be able to access it.

YouTube is an unbolt internet domain (free for all). Multiply.com is a similar site (to that of Bestbuy's), except that you can elect to choose who you want to view your personal archives of pictures and videos. So, I'm not really sure what the logic is behind this endeavor.

best-buy has free publicity on every single store they have plus there are ppl that need this, there are lots of pages when u can post pictures but ppl still pay for hosting on password protected sites. so why not for video?

Emugamer, Yes just about anyone can access YouTube with exception to businesses or maybe countries like China that filters their ISP’s.

Worst Buy a dollar short a day late, what’s new!
