Guys... come on... can we not get excited about anything? If I want more games with my system, I'll go to Futureshop where right now I get 3 games with the system + the 5 movie mail in deal with the 80 gig system.

If anyone is gonna give me something free with a new system I'm buying.... and I am buying on in the next 4 to 6 weeks... I'm going to take the best overall deal for me. Do you want $375 worth of bluray disks... or $180 worth of software and $125 worth of bluray movies FREE WITH PURCHASE of a system I wanted and was going to buy anyway.

You can appreciate a deal or complain... I feel like some folks hear could get a below the belt handshake from Jenna Jameson and still say, "I don't like that kind of lotion... come back when you have something with Aloe Vera in it"... Sheesh.

I would jump on this if I planned on getting a PS3. Take the 15 movies, sell them on Amazon for $15 to $20 a pop. That has the potential of paying for 60% of my console! Or put it toward some wireless controllers and a few games.

all in all this is a hell of a deal..

right now normal blu-ray players in the first place are from 299-399 still...
so paying an extra hundred dollars for a next-gen gaming machine and 15 bluray movies is a good deal
15x15$=210$

so for all you people being stubborn, i dont know if any of ya'll have actually watched blu-ray flix on a 1080p TV...
it is better than watching people in real life.

They should do this deal in ASDA stores, in the UK. (ASDA was taken over by Walmart).

Then id sell the movies off and save up to buy more games.

Technically these movies aren't "free", look how much the system costs. They can't really include any "free" games since they really don't have that many. They need to focus on quality games and stop making the ps3 a movie machine.

remember, in theory these movies could be $30x15=$450...its a pretty nice gift for a system you may have already been buying.

The large Walmart stores in our area typically have pretty good BluRay choices in stock though not as extensive as the local Best Buy. Anyone taking advantage of this sale should have a nice array of movies available. The typical prices of Walmart's BluRay's have been $19 to $25 with a few new releases at $29. Of course the multi disc TV series boxes and the special edition Close Encounters box are >$30.

I've also noticed that the available BluRays in our local Walmart typically outnumber HD DVD's by about 2:1. The movies are usually at an end cap and the BluRays have always tended to "spill over" to the HD DVD section.

Technically your not paying much more then a Elite 360 with the 80 PS3. Elite is $450+ tax PS3 is $499+ tax. Once you add in your XBL and other things the 360 cost its around the same cost as the PS3 minus the 15 movies. You add the 15movies to the PS3 your almost getting it at $150 or a little more. So this is a deal if you dont want movies like somebody else said sell them. Easy money.

If you really think Sony is throwing lemons at you, make lemonade!

A plain and simple fact is that it is just senseless to go one direction or another. Unless you are prepped to buying BOTH formats, why would anyone purchase Blu-ray or HD-DVD at this time? One may go away or die out or both may go away with another universal format taking over. Hmmmmm........buy a BD player and can't watch movies like Transformers or HD-DVD specific titles and buy an HD-DVD player and can't watch a single Sony production movie or movies for BD only. The only smart thing a consumer would do is WAIT.

The smart thing now is to wake up and see that the US retail giants have called this war already.

HD DVD are to win.

It's written all over the Q4 results everyone was watching out for, the PS3s despite the hype after the price cut aren't so impressive

Warner will be going HD DVD exclusive and that'll be it made obvious to all.
Disney just actively voted for the coming 51gb TL HD DVD discs
(instead of the usual abstaining the BDA members do.....well they do that now on HD DVD matters after being publicly shamed for trying to use their votes to block HD DVD developments, notably the Chinese CH-DVD); looks like they may well be going neutral in 2008 (and if they do others will uindoubtedly follow, although with excellent HD DVD sales in Q4 that may well happen with New Line and Lionsgate anyways......
......and don't Disney & Lionsgate contribute to the XBox live stuff already?).

The truth is that after the recent price cuts Toshiba have sold container loads of players.

Blu-ray meanwhile still tries to plod on ploughing it's PS3 furrow and promises the sort of functionality HD DVD has had since day 1 at some point in the future.

Wow, BLU-RAY just beat hd dvd again 66 to 34 on the Nelsons. BLU woops hd in the rest of the world. Any where from 5 to 1 in European countries, and 9 to 1 in Japan. Warner is probably going Blu at the end of the year. I can see how someone would think hd dvd is going to win. Even after the $99 give away, Blu still beats HD DVD. In the HD recording market in Japan, (lap tops and PC) BLU has 97.2% of the recorders and HD DVD has %2.8. Now, lets see commits like Japan and the rest of the World does not matter.

Bingo why would Warner go to a format that can't even win a week sells over Blu-Ray for the year ....Warner going to HD-DVD makes a lot of sense don't it...lol.HD-DVD format has zero effect on PC now were Blu-Ray does.

Since my favorite nephew asked for a PS3 this year I decided to take advantage of this deal.

I was at our local WalMart at 7:30AM and they had 9 people in line for the deal all carrying their movie selections. I asked the last one in line and he said they had 10 80 gig units in stock so I was just in time to get the last unit available. They had a really good selection of BluRay movies in stock.

I got:
the 4 Die Hard movies
Spiderman 3
Rescue Dawn
Ocean's 13
Reservoir Dogs
28 Weeks Later
Close Encounters of the Third Kind - The good thing is the disc retails for $34 but the manager agreed to credit the $30 and rang up the movie for $4. So I guess you can still get a title that's over $30 as long as you agree to pay the difference.

So I get my 10 free movies (well the last one was almost free but still a great bargain) and my nephew gets his PS3 for Christmas. I left the UPC code intact and printed out the 5-free-disc rebate form for him so at least he can get a few movies for himself.

Pretty good deal altogether. Thanks DVDBack23 for giving us the heads-up on this one.

I also noticed that they had 2 Toshiba HD-A2 units on their shelf. I requested for a price check and they were now back to their regular price of $229. Good thing I got 2 units during their $99 sale.

Warner are going to go where production costs (and so potential profits) are highest = HD DVD.

As Paramount said, Blu-rays higher costs offset the early lead in sales numbers and it is obvious that HD DVD is selling very very strongly this Q4
(which was what everyone was supposed to be watching......no wonder Sony tried to lie about their 'not-so-impressive-after-all' sales numbers)

Typically for the Blu-ray/PS3 fanclub you choose to completely ignore costs and the fact that at this stage in things the numbers sold are minute (on both sides) compared to the total movie disc market.

It remains true that despite a year of supposed 'blockbuster' Blu-ray movies and growing PS3 sales they still only lead by 60:40.

Wow, what a great deal!! So 15 free movies with a $500 PS3? You know those movies cost about $20 to $30 a piece to buy on their own. So it's like you're saving $300 to $450!!! I mean it's like you're only paying $50 for the PS3.

Yep, that's how I would look at it if I actually gave a crap about movies, but I don't. What I still see here is a $500 video game system that's too damn expensive to buy.
