Nokia sees 'mobile content in a 'circular' world

3 December 2007 17:32 by Rich "vurbal" Fiscus | 6 comments

Nokia sees 'mobile content in a 'circular' world Nokia is publicizing a a report combining their own consumer research with a study conducted for them by market analysts at The Future Laboratory, and released a report with their conclusions about the future of multimedia content. Not surprisingly Nokia's conclusions indicate that consumers are heading in a direction that would dovetail nicely with the company's current direction.

The Future Laboratory's portion of the study included interviews with what Nokia calls "trend-setting consumers" from 17 countries about their views of the next few years and how they expect media to be created and consumed. For their part, Nokia got feedback from 9,000 customers around the world who own mobile devices, including some manufactured by other companies.

According to Mark Selby, Vice President of Multimedia for Nokia, the study indicates that in a few years most content will be created by users for circulation on a variety of mobile devices. He said "From our research we predict that up to a quarter of the entertainment being consumed in five years will be what we call 'Circular'. The trends we are seeing show us that people will have a genuine desire not only to create and share their own content, but also to remix it, mash it up and pass it on within their peer groups - a form of collaborative social media."

While Nokia's conclusions are interesting, it's not surprising that consumers who have already shown interest in the technologies Nokia are looking at a future built on those devices, but does that translate to interest by the general public?

Nokia is one of the top phone manufacturers out there. They need to produce a product that could measure up to the iPhone.

I sure hope so. I'm a big fan of PPC. I'm ready to upgrade my AT&T 8525.

I am not an iPhone hater, and I am a mac fan, but...

The N95 has a 5 megapixel camera (which apparently is awesome) and full GPS. It also allows you to properly install 3rd party apps. It also has 3G. The iPhone has a very average 2 megapixel camera and none of the above.

I have a love/hate relationship with my HTC 6800 but where I am CDMA is king!
