Sony Blu-ray player hits new low price

17 December 2007 18:27 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 12 comments

Sony Blu-ray player hits new low price For those interested, many prominent retailers have begun selling the Sony's BDP-S300 Blu-ray player at record-low prices despite recent Sony quotes that their Blu-ray players would not dip below $400 USD this year.

The player can be found at Amazon, Circuit City and Best Buy for $299 USD, a hundred dollar price cut off its suggested retail price.

The new price drop follows a trend recently in which Blu-ray standalones have dropped in price, especially the Samsung's BDP-1400 which was selling for $270 USD as of last week, down from its $400 suggested retail price.

Although still more expensive than most rival HD DVD players, the new lowered prices means added competition, which is always good for the consumer.

What i didnt mention before is the price of this unit its actually not bad for a person that dont want a PS3. More and more Sony keeps creeping their prices down towards what HD-DVD has.

    - Actually no, not in the same way as I meant about the Samsung and Sony.

The HD A2 was the HD DVD player referred to in the many rumours about Walmart and the big HD DVD deal earlier in the year.
That big sale was planned many months beforehand.

    - The big difference here would be that all HD DVD players have full functionality and have had it since day 1.

Even tho the HD A2 has been superceded by the HD A3 it still retains all the iHD functions and full play-back abilities.

You just can't say that about profile 1.0 players
(well not once profile 1.1/glorified interactive CD gets going).

it was a clearance sale, but not on an obsolete player, the A2 will always be able to enjoy full function ability of all future HD DVD releases, unlike profile 1.0 BD players

    As said before;

I'll pass my thought on here...............This is Harry's law! This is absolutely how it's going to be.

THERE WILL BE NO VICTOR BETWEEN BLU-RAY AND HD-DVD PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

This WILL NOT be a repeat of the betamax, VHS crap. Boys and girls, we are stuck with two (2) formats. Count'em up; 1,2 There has been too much invested in each and too many videos already produced on each for there to wind up only being one (1). Anyone who believes that Sony will honestly stop producing on their own Blu-ray format that THEY INVENTED and start putting Sony-produced flicks out on HD-DVD is a fool. I used to believe that one would become prevalent but since have change my realistic thoughts on that.

Here's the answer to all the questions.............DUAL FORMAT PLAYERS WILL BE THE STANDARD. It's already started and will continue and drastically reduce in price somewhere down the line. If you don't like the idea of waiting then the option of buying two (2) players is the next best solution. BD for 300.00 bucks and HD-DVD for 300.00 (unless you find another Walmart deal for 100.00)

    DONE!
