Japanese file-sharing increases 180%

According to results of an online survey, in a little over a year, the number of internet users file sharing in Japan has surged by 180 percent. The average number of files downloaded increased by over 250 percent. The survey has basically conveyed that "the numbers of internet users in Japan sharing music, movies and software has increased dramatically to reach an all-time high."

The survey was carried out online and was financed by the RIAJ (like the RIAA), the Japanese MPAA and the ACC. It concluded that "the number of internet users sharing authorized media climbed from 3.5 per cent in June 2006, to 9.6 per cent by September 2007."

Winny was the P2P app of choice with 27 percent of users citing it. Limewire was second with 19 precent and WinMX close behind at 15 percent. Suprisingly, BitTorrent placed fourth with a measly 7.4 percent.

Not suprising and did you know that internet connections in Japan put the rest of the worlds to shame. Over there it is truly highspeed. 10Mbps is considered low end compared to 6-8Mbps on the high end in the US and elsewhere. At least that's what I have read in my industry pubs. [ + quote]

Dunno why they wont ware so much :F 1/1/gbps is default stuff in Japan, same like 100/100/mbps is in Sweden. Costs like 15� in a month... Duh... And there are pretty girls too :) [ + quote]

Gee I thought WinMX had died ! Yes I believe that Japan and Korea have some of the fasted broadband in the world. Makes it easy to share. Here in NZ we have one of the slowest in the world. [ + quote]

I may be mistaken, but I'm almost sure the reason Sweeden has an affordable broadband is because the goverment subsidizes it. That is a big NoNo in the US, where corporate greed has deep roots in Congress. [ + quote]
