Paramount becomes final studio to move to Blu-ray

Paramount has announced that it has become the final major studio to move to Blu-ray, after it had been HD DVD exclusive since last August.

"We are pleased that the industry is moving to a single high-definition format, as we believe it is in the best interest of the consumer," the studio said in a statement.

"As we look to (begin) releasing our titles on Blu-ray, we will monitor consumer adoption and determine our release plans accordingly."

There was no other details issued as to when the transition would begin nor was there word on what titles would be first released on Blu-ray. There was also no word on whether Dreamworks would be moving with its parent company but that announcement is expected soon.

sorry but that sounds like a silly comment from an HD-DVD fan - what else were Paramount going to do ? Refuse to release High Definition discs altogether ? you don't buy distributors out when there is only one product left to distribute. and remember it was HD-DVD who outbid and bought out Payamount last august to go HD-DVD exclusive. I own both and had no preference; I have no preference because it will all be replaced with something else. I'm certainly not going to operate under the assumption that the winner of this squirmish is going be king of formats for generations to come. Hell, my son is still confused as to what a VHS is. So far as he knows, it's the box under the HD Dvd player (next to the PS3) that a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich would fit nicely in to. So many things switched at once, that I couldn't follow all of it. I guess it doesn't matter anyway. The war is over, and I have a $400 upconverting DVD player. I hope that I at least still get the free movies that I was suppose to get. By the way, Tiger Direct had a sale on a 1080i Toshiba HDDVD player w/ 7 movies for $89 if anyone was wanting to cash in on Toshiba's misfortune. [ + quote]
