Amazon offers credit to HD DVD player owners

Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 09 Apr 2008 12:08 User comments (8)

Amazon offers credit to HD DVD player owners To anyone who was upset at the demise of HD DVD, Amazon has announced a credit for any early adopter who bought an HD DVD player before February 23rd of this year.
Anyone who purchased the player is eligible and should receive an email with a code for $50 USD in credit for a future purchase at the e-tailer. Recently, Best Buy announced a similar credit offering for early adopters.

The fine print of the email looks like this:

Amazon.com Special Offer: $50 Off a Future Purchase

Fine Print:

* On February 23, 2008, the last manufacturer of HD DVD players announced it was ceasing production of those players.

** Offer cannot be used to pay for special-order titles, e-books or downloadable e-content, wireless service plans, gift certificates, gift-wrap, taxes, or shipping and handling charges. $50.00 promotional credit is per HD DVD player purchased prior to February 23, 2008--up to 10 units for a maximum credit of $500.00.

You are receiving this e-mail due to your purchase of a qualifying HD DVD player from Amazon.com. Canceled or returned orders of eligible HD DVD players are not eligible for this promotion.

If you are ordering items to be shipped to more than one address, a separate order will be created for each address. The promotional offer will be applied to only one of the resulting orders.

Some promotional certificates and offers may not be combined with other claim code-based offers. Offer's cash value is 1/10th of one cent. Offer is not for resale and is not redeemable for cash. Offer cannot be applied to orders already placed with Amazon.

Just got my promotion code for the Toshiba HD-XA2 that I bought from them last year.

With the $50 I ordered from their BluRay 3 for 2 sale - six BluRay discs for a measly $30 after the HD DVD promo code.

One satisfied customer here.

Sweet.

I got $100 worth of store credit for my A1 and XA2. I'm saving it to get $100 off the Panasonic DMP-BD50 2.0 BluRay player when it comes out.

the consumers should get money back more often from the big wigs "standardization" spats....

Amazon just gave me $50 for the A30 I got from them last year. I think I'll go with error5 and save it for the Panasonic BD50. (Ironic isn't it?)

Does anyone think this is a sign that they're planning to stop selling HD DVD hardware and software soon - like Best Buy just did?

It's possible. Best Buy did the same $50 thing before removing all traces of HD DVD from their stores.

I still haven't received anything from BB. Anyone else know whats up with that? Do I need to go to the store to redeem it? I thought they were suppose to mail them out.

I have 3 friends who all got their $50 gift cards from BB last week. They didn't have to do anything and the card just arrived by mail. I'm sure all of them are Reward Zone members so that could explain the fast response. I'd just dig up the receipt for your player and go to your nearest store.

Yea, I'm a Reward Zone member as well. I went to BB today and they said they can't do anything, I'm going to have to talk to someone at their corporate offices. :(

Hope I get mine soon.
