AT&T finalizes pricing plans for iPhone 3G

A week before its US launch on July 11th, AT&T has finally announced the finalization of its pricing plans for the upcoming iPhone 3G.

As we know, the 8GB model will sell for $199 USD and the 16GB model for $299 along with mandatory 2-year contracts. The reduced prices are eligible to current subscribers, new AT&T customers and anyone current iPhone users that purchased the first generation phone before July 11th.

AT&T users that are "not eligible" can buy the device for $399 and $499 respectively and will have to switch to a new 2-year contract as well.

All users will also have to sign up for the $30-a-month unlimited data plan as well. Each user will need a voice plan to go with the data plan, and the cheapest AT&T voice plan is $39.99 for 450 anytime minutes and 5,000 night and weekend minutes. The most expensive is $99.99 per month and will get you unlimited minutes.

Additionally, if users want text messaging, they will have to pay extra. Unlimited for $20, 1,500 for $15 or 200 for $5. First generation iPhone users had unlimited text messaging included in the data plan.

all that hype for a 200USD iphone is ridiculous. its saying, pay $200 to add in a 3G and a different back plate. thats without having that insane apple iphone plan that goes with AT&T. [ + quote]

Ok one thing you folks need to realize is that the iphone uses alot of data like e-mail, itunes store, and now the app store. One thing you also need to realize is that the "Visual Voice mail" Goes through the data connections so the end user is not waisting minutes checking voice mail. if you want to gripe about having to take the data potion and only want a phone then I would suggest that you get a cheap Nokia and a ipod touch and quit complaining about the data cost. I, for one, am rejoicing that the price came down and only have to pay 15 more a month for internet that actually works on a phone rather then the cripple internet that I get on my Samsung A-737 that I currently pay $15 for. And the "Family unlimited" messaging that I am paying for will work for the phone. So my cost is only going up $15 for full usage! NA-NE-NA-NE-POO-POO! [ + quote]

this is crap!!! I am sorry to have to use this word to discribe thisbut 100.00 for a unlimited plan wow what a rip off i can get a unlimited plan from t mobile for 39.99 and that includes the data plan [ + quote]

The reason that I to not need a data plan is the fact that I DO NOT NEED email, music store, or any of the other features that are available on this device. All I need is a MP3 player, phone service, and wi-fi connectivity. Has ATT ever considered that some of us have ready access to wi-fi were we live or work. Its tools like you that keep companies like wal-mart and ATT in business because you are willing to put up with their crap. As for me I will NEVER buy this device as long as it has these strings attached. Damn blind consumerism. [ + quote]
