Don't most countries these days require you to give a DNA sample when you are arrested by The Police ? That's why it was taken in this case - if you are found innocent the sample is supposedly destroyed but if found guilty , the sample is added to the national DNA database.
Might sound a bit extreme but it has solved a lot of long standing unsolved rape, murder and serious crimes.

Well, it assumes that people who break the law in any way, shape or form are deviants. So when a rape investigation starts, they feel that your DNA should be thrown into the mix. Because people who upload music are put into the "criminal" category.

used to be that way in the UK but for the last few years it doesnt matter if your found innocent or guilty, the DNA still goes into the national database, they are or were even plans to make DNA sampling mandatory in the UK for everyone so they could build a complete database of every man woman and child in the country

They opened a new DNA testing lab in Runcorn today which cuts the time to test from 5 days to 12 hours....

Solution.. if you commit a burglary or any other crime which may involve leaving dna around just torch the evidence before leaving ;).. or we can burn the testing labs down.

They say we support the collecting of bio data.. Did they ask us? NO!

yep so if you commit a crime make sure you find a used dog end (cigarette but) or an empty can of whatever to frame someone else!

but the flip side is that a murder is committed and that can you didn't put in the bin, ends up near by, you have no alibi and the police, in their usual attempt to solve crime by any means necessary, which usually means blaming a relation regardless of how thin their circumstantial evidence is, and guess what happens, they fix you for it because YOUR dna was at the crime scene.

just ask the Billie-Jo Jenkins's father, Sion Jenkins how the police have destroyed his life with circumstantial evidence in the need to find anyone to blame.

Barry George who was convicted by concealment of evidence that would have acquitted the case by the UK police force (also with Sion Jenkins) of Jill Dando's murder.

Jill's press release appeal to catch the murderer stated, the police were looking a man in a cap, carrying a mobile phone in london!

and they pinned it on a mentally disabled guy that could not defend himself, case closed, police win, another crime solved, who cares if we caught the right person.
