According to the latest data from GFK Chart-Track, sales of the Microsoft Xbox 360 console have risen 32 percent over the last 4 days after the company announced a price cut on the console in the UK. On the other end, sales of the Sony PlayStation 3 were down 8 percent for the same time period.
The price cut drove the price down for the Arcade model to GBP 129.99, the Premium to GBP 169.99 and the Elite to GBP 229.99, marking the lowest point yet for next-gen consoles.
"[360] sales are up 32 per cent and PlayStation 3 sales are down eight per cent," added Chart-Track's Chris Poole.
Poole also noted that software sales were up, citing specifically the fact that the supermarket Morrisons was selling all chart titles for half off.
"We've had quite a big release with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed but we're on the back of the Morrison's promotion so we've had a drop in units but a rise in value," noted Poole.

this always happens during the life of electronic devices. Eventually the manufacturing costs become close to 0.. have a look at the phone and pda market.. top dollar when new, almost free 2 years down the line.

This is basically grabbing Sony by the balls saying "play your cards now"!!! I think we all can say September sales will be somewhere between 225,000 and 290,000 for the Xbox 360 if not more, and Sony's will be below 190,000 units. It's good to see an honest to good GAMER console do well.

Once again, been telling you this, MicroShaft.
It's called capitalism.
You use economy of scale to bring the price down and people buy more units.
Since you're still making an incredible amount of profit, you get richer.
See how that works?

It's so honest to good that nearly 1/3 of all consoles fail. I agree the game library is very good, but the hardware itself isn't.
My 360 already failed me once and it's not even 6 months old, whereas my (older) Wii and PS3 are still going strong.

I don't care, I've been through three Xbox 360 consoles, 2 were RROD and the third an E74 error. But I still love Microsoft and the 360...it's just I go through a period when I hate them when my stuff dies...but I've been going several-several months with the same 360 and it hasn't died yet...yipppppie! Despite the deaths occuring, it can't be denied that Microsoft is kicking ass this gen.

I agree they definetly have sony by the balls with all these price cuts. Thing is though sony doensot have any cards to play at this time. They can not lower the price of the PS3 but that is the cost of having next-generation technology (blue-ray). Will be interesting to see what happens next.
