Unsubsidized iPhone 3G now available

27 March 2009 16:53 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 6 comments

Unsubsidized iPhone 3G now available Last week we reported that Apple was contemplating selling unsubsidized, unlocked iPhone 3Gs, and it appears that as of yesterday, Apple and AT&T retail stores have begun selling the phones at $599 for the 8GB model and $699 USD for the 16GB smartphone.

One striking difference between the stores however is that if you plan to purchase at an AT&T store, you can only purchase one phone, and you must be an existing AT&T customer. At the Apple stores, you can purchase an unrestricted amount of phones and you do not have to be under contract from any mobile carrier.

Phone activation can be done manually through iTunes, reminds Apple.

Unlocked phones can be used on any GSM carrier, however 3G is not supported on T-Mobile, making the phone's faster Internet support useless.

$700 for a friggen cell phone? There is absolutely nothing about the phone that makes it worth $700. If your an Apple fan, you might as well just save up a little more money and buy a Macbook.

There is a bit of a size difference there. you can't exactly fit a Macbook in your shirt pocket.

Yes it is. Nowadays everything is a computer. My flat screen TV runs Linux according to the users manual.

    Um, whaaaaa-a-a-at?! Fail!

An iPhone is nothing but a computer, that happens to make phone calls. In fact, every cell phone, by definiton IS a computer. -.-' Come on now.

    Google "computer definition" sometime.

You could purcahse a netbook for half that price.

It'd be faster, and better, heck you can even carry it around with you, probably the same battery life, bigger screen, make internet phone calls and everything.

A phone costing that amount of money makes no sense, and I think phones previously cost way to much.

Also, most things are computers. I think what we are talking about here though is it a personal computer a PC. A calculator is a computer, however it is not a personal computer.

Is a personal computer defined as having computer abilites with a GUI?

    Most likely.
