Momitsu releases region-free Blu-ray player

Momitsu has announced the release of their BDP-899 Blu-ray player, the world's first region-free BD player.

The player will play DVD and Blu-ray discs from any region and is also BD-Live compatible. Depending on what region your discs are, you can enter a six digit code using the remote control to change the player from Region A to B or C.

The player can also playback a plethora of formats: Xvid, MPEG1, MPEG2 , MPEG4(AVI), MP4 HD, WMV9, JPEG, BMP, PNG, TIFF, JPEG2000 and GIF. The player also has internal HD audio decoding, including Dolby TrueHD.

Finally someone pulls their head out of their a**, and puts out a player that isn't locked down with this additional protection. This might be a DRMray player worth buying because of all the other formats it supports. I'll be looking forward to some reviews. [ + quote]

this does look interesting but its lacking usb support say from external harddrive and mkv support all in all when i see that i know its time to get a blu ray player [ + quote]

You hear alot of people complaining about a device not supporting Matroska these days, given it does just about everything. Im sure there is a reason why they wont allow open Container formats on a BD player, and im sure its for the same reason they don't want the *nix scene playing BD discs [ + quote]

Funny you say that because most of the times, if you order dvd players and such from overseas, a good majority of them are region free and even a decent cheap one lasts a long time runs about $100 [ + quote]

and they got a licence? i thought that the movie courps were making multi region illegal, under the proposals that were leaked from the ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement) to wikileaks? and seems that, 1. Walt Disney Pictures (The Walt Disney Company); 2. Columbia Pictures (Sony Corporation); 3. Paramount Pictures (Viacom); 4. 20th Century Fox (News Corporation); 5. Universal Studios (NBC Universal); 6. Warner Bros. (Time Warner). release the majority of films, (be it popcorn pg13 rubbish)and dictate the hardware specs, it's rather strange this blu-ray player is in existence. what happened to global price fixing through regional locks, will it raise it's ugly head again? i wonder if it will be updated to newer profiles because remember this company is new and with blu-ray movies sometimes they need be updated. oh i wonder if this player can play avchd format because it doesn't say. [ + quote]

I doesn't support bluray discs however. [ + quote]
