Nokia launches first netbook, Nokia Booklet 3G

Nokia has announced the launch of their first netbook today, the Nokia Booklet 3G which boasts some pretty powerful specs.

�A growing number of people want the computing power of a PC with the full benefits of mobility,� adds Kai Oistamo, Nokia�s Executive Vice President for Devices. �We are in the business of connecting people and the Nokia Booklet 3G is a natural evolution for us. Nokia has a long and rich heritage in mobility and with the outstanding battery life, premium design and all day, always on connectivity, we will create something quite compelling. In doing so we will make the personal computer more social, more helpful and more personal.�

The netbook also promises a strong integration with Ovi, including Ovi Maps, Music Store and Ovi Cloud Storage. Easy sync to Nokia devices is also in the cards.

The full specs:

* Intel Atom Chipset (Z530 running at 1.6 Ghz). No fan, which means near silent running.

* Windows 7

* 120 GB hard disk

* 3G / HSDPA and WiFi connectivity, plus integrated Bluetooth for local wireless communication

* 12 hour battery life

* 19.9 mm thick x 264 mm width x 185 mm depth

* 10.1 inch glass HD ready display

* Front facing video camera mounted, on top of the screen, for video calling

* 1 x HDMI port (for HD video out), 1 x integarted SD card reader, 3 x USB ports, 1 x audio port

* Integrated A-GPS

* Stereo speakers mounted on the front right and left corners

Long time Nokia fans will remember the cell phone makers last foray into the PC business, with the MikroMikko in 1981.

M$ is releasing it in October! 2nd you say Nokia has their own OS they should develop when you just said proprietary software would ruin it! yeah, i think i will stick the using my laptops bluetooth and using the unlimited data contract on my phone for 3g internet, as no matter how hard i bash it ive never had a bill for extra bandwidth... unlike most 3g dongles or netbooks. and when theres no 3g signal, theres always cough backtrack. lol [ + quote]

"10.1 inch glass HD ready display " I love that...it's not hd, but you can downscale HD video to play on it, so it is "HD ready." And it's not glass...it would be insane to put a glass screen in a laptop...not just because of the shatering concern, but also because of weight. [ + quote]
