New iPhone bootrom blocks jailbreaking

14 October 2009 11:14 by Rich "vurbal" Fiscus | 10 comments

New iPhone bootrom blocks jailbreaking Apple appears to have finally patched a bootrom vulnerability in the iPhone 3GS which has been used for jailbreaking via the 24Kpwn exploit. Apple replaced the bootrom in units shipped recently with an updated version.

Apple modifying the bootrom eventually was inevitable given the amount of work continue to put into attempting to stop jailbreakers.

This won't affect jailbreaking of older iPhones. But if you were planning to buy a new iPhone with the intention of jailbreaking it you might want to buy a refurbished unit or look for a retailer with older stock.

I think several things are going to have to happen before Jailbraking stops.

    1. Kill exclusivity.
    2. Relax Apps approval.
    3. Make Apps cheaper.

That's true but the PSPGo probably won't go anywhere.

It will stop since ps3 can't be cracked. It's just a matter to time when security will become way too adavance for anyone during their lifetime to crack.

    ps3 could be hacked
but 1 thing you need to understand is hackers always take the path of least resistance. since XBOX 360 is hacked there is no need to hack ps3.

2 much effort to hack ps3 then hack blue ray's then burn expensive blue rays and have a expensive burner. not worth it.
jail breaking will never stop thats a guarantee.
and people wanna play ps3 online.
any mod chip would ruin that

Upon reading this and without looking at the comments............I just knew these exact comments would be posted as I was going to say the same thing.

No need in bothering now. 'Nough said by all others.

Though Jackroo makes a disturbingly ridiculous comment. Um........until cryptography and security is designed by aliens or by something OTHER THAN PEOPLE........then PEOPLE will always be able to crack something. Law of relativity my friend..........for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Human being with a beating heart and red blood designs security........then another human being with a beating heart and red blood will circumvent it. There is no one being on the planet that knows more than ALL others.

I really hate the term "fanboy". It's gay and frankly..........we're all "fanboys" of something.............whether it be Sony, scat or sex.
