Philips shipping Wireless HDTV Link

Philips has begun shipping the Wireless HDTV Link this week, a device which will connect HD components to HDTVs, wirelessly.

The Wireless HDTV Link SWW1800/27 can send wireless signals to (up to Full HD 1080p) TVs, at a distance of up to 75 feet. The device can send signals through walls and other furniture and will allow devices to be stored away from the TV while still connected, and without wires.

Twice says the system "consists of a transmitter, which is designed to resemble a source component, such as a Blu-ray Disc player, and a compact wireless receiver, which is small enough to be stored behind a flat-panel TV mounted on a wall."

The Link can connect up to four HDMI sources or two component video sources. Philips expects the most popular devices to be used with the system are BD players, video game consoles such as the Xbox 360 or PS3 and HD cable set top boxes.

"Wireless HDTV Link is technology that consumers are demanding - and Philips' wireless product provides solid HD performance and improves aesthetics of the home without the cost or hassle of a custom installation," says Nico Riggio, Philips Consumer Lifestyles parts and accessories A/V multimedia VP.

The Wireless HDTV Link SWW1800/27 has an MSRP of $799 USD.

I was thinking "ooh I could use this to connect my ps3 to two TV's without having to lump the thing up and down the stairs" but then I saw the price an was like "oof I think I'll keep lumping it up an down the stairs" ...innit [ + quote]
