Amazon, Disney, Pixar start deep Blu-ray promotion

7 November 2009 3:16 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 12 comments

Amazon, Disney, Pixar start deep Blu-ray promotion Amazon, Pixar and Disney have started a deep Blu-ray promotion this week, as well as dropping the prices on the much anticipated titles Up and Monster's Inc.

The large e-tailer has dropped the price of Up to $19.99 for the 4-disc Blu-ray edition (includes digital copy and standard DVD), a giant drop off its MSRP of $45. Monster's Inc. has also been dropped to $23 for the same 4-disc BD edition, a steep drop from its $41 MSRP. If you purchase the two together, Amazon is also offering $10 off just for buying the combo. Some quick math shows that you are getting two brand new Blu-rays, two standard DVDs and two digital copies for $33 shipped.

Additionally, Disney and Pixar are offering an extra $10 off if you purchase another BD from a selection of Disney and Pixar films.

Since when did operation choice overkill come into effect on blu-ray film releases ?
Not complaining about it but it has me scratching my head a bit - 2 disc blu ray plus standard dvd plus digital copy - what are they going to do at christmas ? include a sealed turkey christmas lunch for the 25th ?

    Domie bro
They are trying to to drive interest and at under 25$ its not that bad a deal to buy pre formated BR/DVD/DIGC,ect in one go. This hits both DVD and BR markets and helps push the product.

Over the years I used to buy Beta tapes, LaserDiscs and DVDs of the movies I like. Spent lots of money and have very little to show for now that Blu-Ray is the standard. I've learned my lesson: I have 2 Blu-Ray players and I will not spend more than 12 Euro or $20 for any given movie. Rental or Download it is.

    I do the same but 10$ a download,5$ a rental or 15$ a film disc or 30$ a game. Tipically I spend 5-25$ for anything I get.

I wonder what would happen if everybody used those rules for a few months. I would find it quite easy to NOT pay $34.95 or 29.95 Euros for the latest releases. It would be immensely exciting to see everybody join in and see prices drop in my acceptable range. On the other hand, if "you" continue to pay anything The Industry asks for, you are my enemy and "I vill destroy you" (just kidding, but barely).

yeah I try to budget my spending on media too. I try to wait for games to drop to the greatest hits or platinum hits when they reach about 20-30$ new unless its a really good game that i cant wait to play. This deal sounds good to add to my collection.

Purchased both and added Snow White for a friend who wants the DVD. Have release day shipping free due to being a Prime member. Each movie ended up being around $15, a killer price for 4 disc Blu-rays, honestly.

There are some awesome prices for blu-rays going on at Amazon right now. It's a great time for us to build our blu collection further. Aside from the Disney deals, I've also ordered:
    - GI Joe: 19.99
    - Terminator Salvation: 16.99
    - Star Trek: 21.49
    - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: 16.99
    - Angels & Demons: 18.99
    - Heat: 16.49

Those are great deals for new and/or blockbuster movies

It's progress but remains inadequate. None of those films appeal to me and the prices for ALL Blu-Ray should be equal to DVD prices. There is no reason to believe production costs for Blu-Ray are any higher than DVD. $12-15 for sale items, never more than $20 for other titles. If that never happens, good, I'll save a ton of money...
