Xbox 360 802.11n adapter now on sale

10 November 2009 16:14 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 15 comments

Xbox 360 802.11n adapter now on sale After accidentally being shown off a week ago by retail giant Costco, the Microsoft 802.11n Wi-Fi adapter is now available officially, via NewEgg, Costco and other online retailers.

The new adapter should provide much more bandwidth then the current line of 802.11g adapters and will use MIMO (multiple in, multiple out) and two antennas to provide a stronger signal and extended range. Microsoft says the new adapters will have double the range of the 802.11g adapters.

Electronista adds that the "adapter is also dual-band and can run on 5GHz to avoid interference as well as 2.4GHz for those with older 802.11n routers or who have to run a mixed-mode network to support legacy devices."

The device sells for between $88-100 USD.

I have an n router, and the older adapter for the 360. My connection is terrible and I am in the room right over from the router with my 360. It must be whatever is in the walls, because my laptop also has trouble sometimes. Maybe this would be better.

That means you're router is Terrible. I'm in the room above my router and I move my 360 and laptop anywhere in the house. I have wireless devices in every corner of the house and I never lag. I've had the PC on, PS3 online games and 360 online games at the same time without problems.

Antenna design is also very important. You don't need a big or expensive antenna, just one (or more) that are made smartly. WiFi will work from miles away with the right antennas...even with a cheap, half-broken router. If you have some copper wire and a few empty soda cans, you can made a biquad or quadquad antenna that works better than most $50 units.

Ya its one of the last few bugs/oddties left in the site I am aware of. Mabye next code overhaul they can fix it so the report buttons are in the comment section as well as the forum section.

Ah modern gaming its like modern film only the watering down of fiction and characters is replaced with shallow and watered down mechanics, gimmicks and shiny-er "people".

One or more of us have highlighted this so hopefully it'll get fixed in the new site layout (it's in Alpha at the moment).
