Music disappearing from Zune Pass

Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 05 Feb 2010 5:41 User comments (23)

Music disappearing from Zune Pass According to a pretty long thread over at Zune.net, it appears that Zune Pass subscription holders have seen their music disappear in the last week, for no reason whatsoever.
Says the first post of the thread:

"Anyone else finding more content either not available, album only or music that was offered (Spoon/Arcade Fire) now just gone? This seems to be happening more and more over the past few months. Just wondering if anyone else has been having the same issues when looking for music?

Seems to defeat the purpose of paying $15 a month for a subscription and purchase service."

If you are a Zune Pass owner, check the full thread here and any responses from Microsoft.

I do. Jerk.

$15 a month for any song i want is better than paying .99 for each one.
So when i download a few Albums from one artist that about 20-30 songs whats that gonna cost me $15, whats it gonna cost for itunes? $19.80 - $29.70

None of my songs have disappeared though.

Zune HD is a superior media device to any Apple MP3 player. Yeah, I said it.

while that might be true and considering the fact that i despise apple, they still lead the portable music player market with the ipod

sound quality of apple = fail

like i said i despise crapple. the fact that they control the market doesnt imply anything about their products quality.

Tell that to the 360 fanboys, Windows fanboys, etc. who often use the claim that their market share means their stuff is better...the hypocrites who say it DOESN'T mean anything when it goes against THEIR side.

I'll stick with my DRM-Free, Microsoft-Free, Apple-Free MP3 player...at least untill I can find a good quality FLAC player.

I just recently canceled my Zune pass because I found out the hard way that the ten songs they let you have a month from them, you can only download a total of four times then you have to rebuy them.

jeez, just because something is made by apple, doesn't mean it sucks. Same with microsoft.

With the storage of Ipods growing, most people I know are ripping/storing their audio in 16bit/44.1 WAV (and not up sampling either)... which is equivalent of a cd.

that and 320kbps mp3 is pretty decent (I don't know many people storing their music in much less now a days). Most people don't know if you're converting from WAV to AAC or another lossy format, you need to trim the volume down about 3db due to truncating the mp3 process performs.

Personally, I wish the DAC on either unit support 24bit, but that's a dream for another day.

that maybe be true, but so far, all of apples mp3 player line-up is terrible. Macbook Air is abysmal. Macbook and Macbook pro? Ill give you that one, those are the only apple products i like.

Yes...so far I have yet to find ANY Apple product with good sound (ignoring systems upgraded with non-apple parts). I also have never found ANY Microsoft hardware with good audio quality...but at least it is easier to find good quality, windows-compatable audio hardware. Creative was once a leader in audio technology...yet their iPod/Zune rip-off sounds almost as bad as the First-gen Zune. It is rather pathetic when the MP3-head-unit in my car sounds better than a MP3 player that costs more than twice as much...this is even more pathetic when you consider that this unit is so old that the Sd slot does not support SDHC).

I guess this is all because most people don't like music...only words with music behind it...and words don't need good quality.

But the software sucks. Itunes works. zune crap doesnt i had one. I used to try to put whole albums and it would usueally leave out one or two songs for no reason at all so i had to rename them every single time. That has never happen to me with itunes. I did like my zune hd better than my itouch.

Are you insane? Itunes might be the worst media library software in history! It was crippled and mangled by apple in order to try to make Windows look worse than it already looks. ITUNES DOES NOT WORK YOU LYING FANBOY!

For those that like quality, Cowon S9 for the win :)

software sucks? are you referring to the Zune software 3.0? Because 4.0 and 4.1 is ALOT better and i thought it was a fine media player, although id also prefer other players such as J.Rivers Media Center and Media Monkey.

I would disagree about the Zune:HD because that player does in fact have good sounding stuff in it. Perhaps maybe its your headphones? Most people try paring up the Zune, or an Ipod for that matter, with $10 headphones that sound terrible. But if you get a decent amp and good headphones, you can tell that the Zune:HD blows the ipod out of the water and sounds pretty good. But i can see where your going if you are use to high quality stuff like Cowons and Sansa's sound quality.

I haven't been able to verify this...mainly since I don't know anyone who has a Zune.

You obviously didn't know what you were doing with it then (or are lying your own a$$ off about it just because you blindly hate Apple regardless) because it works just fine for me (except for once due to an nVidia driver issue).

zune = shit brick

The ipods ect produce great sound. Anyone that says differently doesn't know much. Even a 10 buck chipod will produce great sound until it dies. It is the ear bugs that totally suck. The standard issue that come with the ipod are so f-ing bad they are a joke. Most crap buds run close to HiFi but they aren't even close. Good buds (in-the-ear) procuse top fidelity. I can quote stats if you like. Yes, Killerbug an ipod out of the box sucks. Most buds that come with most players suck. I have heard Sony is starting to bundle Sony in the ears with their portables.

itunes (on the computer) when rated with WPM, Winamp and Media Monkey only scored about 20 out of a possible 100 on a review I read about a ear ago. Even WMP got near 50. The other two were in the 90s. itune is for a person that only like to use the easy button. I will say itunes on the portable is still the best software for portables I have seen. Sansa is the runner up. What it lacks in features it makes up with the ability to play most audio formats including oggs. I only play mp3s.

My son doesn't use his Zune much because the software on the computer is such a pain to use. Nice hardware though. I would rate it much better than the ipod.

I like the Sansa View as my top portable. I have seen a 32g for only 120 USDs. It can also take a SD card. The screen, battery life and controls are the best on the market. That is amazing value. It will also play just about any format including flac. KillerBug this really is your flac player. Just get yourself some in the ear ear buds and you will be set.
