CD-RW.ORG: Nero Recode v2 preview

7 December 2003 7:52 by Lasse "cd-rw.org" Penttinen | 9 comments

CD-RW.ORG: Nero Recode v2 preview Ahead Software has expanded their Nero product line aggressively to new market segments. The Nero 6 Platinum package promises to offers just about anything one needs for audio and video storing. Nero Recode is their latest addition. It is a DVD to DVD-R video backup program, which is supposed to challenge products like DVDXCopy and CloneDVD. Ahead Software has played it safe, since they acquired some expertise by hiring the developer of DVD Shrink for the project. Besides DVD transcoding, the Recode can also squeeze movies into MPEG-4 Nero Digital –format, which is very similar to Divx. This review is based on a beta version 1.9.9.14 and we will mostly concentrate in the DVD transcoding features.

Any idea when it will be released? All this talk and no mention of a possible release date. Sure does look impressive. Would like to try it for myself. Anyone else?

Not sure when the platinum package will be released but you can test drive recode now by downloading the latest version of Nero Vision....

Recode v1 is included in the Nero 6. We do not know the release date of the final version. The product seems quite ready, so it may be soon -- on the other hand, I've heard that the Nero Digital codec still needs some work.

Thanks for the update. I have been playing with v0.97 and works well but, they seem to be developing a whole separate program (in the sense that it won't be bundled with other Nero software). Any which way it shows up, I sure would like a copy.

Nero Recode and Nero Digital are and will be a part of the Nero 6 license. Not as a separate product.

Me too since I have DVD Xcopy. Wonder if they'll not have a stupid warning screen like DVD Xcopy does. It is annoying. And Oh yea the question "Is This A Rented DVD?" Man if someone admits that they are so stupid. Anyway I sure hope it will come soon because I'll put it to the test. Wonder if you can record from an input source with a Dazzle device and have it look good in that codec for storing on your computer? If so I could record tons of TV Shs and movies from movie channels.

Yes, I hear you. I own DVDX Plat, Xpress and DVD X copy. It has recently been brought to my attention that they have encoded a special signature into the video as it rips/burns (referring to 321 Studios) so that if it ever get's put onto the internet, they can decode the video and find out which licence number it is and shut the program down. Pretty sneaky as it's not advertised. I'd almost say that is infringing on "Privacy Rights" as, they are doing something sneaky without the user knowing. It's not even in the fine print,..or EULA, I've checked.

But in the ads it talks about anti piracy protection. I did not know that they used this. Well looks as though it is more sensible to use a cracked copy verses a licensed copy of DVD Xcopy. I wuppose this is why they can stand up in a cort of law when it comes to the piracy issue because it narcs on you. Even if you were to make it into a DivX it narcs too? Wonder if they have the license number in every so many frames of the film?
