Next-gen Xbox to debut on MTV

11 April 2005 12:00 by Jari Ketola | 16 comments

Next-gen Xbox to debut on MTV The next-generation Xbox console (Xbox 2, Xbox 360 or what ever it will be called) will be unveiled a week before E3 -- on May 12th. The unveiling will not be held behind closed doors to selected few, but on MTV in a half-hour special.

The special will be hosted by Elijah Wood and feature footage of next-generation Xbox games as well as online play. After the show viewers can visit the MTV site for more clips and content.

Both Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Revolution game consoles will most likely be unveiled at E3. None of the manufacturers has announced a launch date as of yet, but the next-generation Xbox is expected to hit the stores by the end of the year. PlayStation 3 and Revolution are not expected before 2006.

Also according to Engadget Pepsi and Microsoft would team up before the Xbox 2 launch for a huge giveaway. In the promotion the companies would be giving away one console every ten minutes, 24 hours a day for nine weeks straight, which adds up to over 9,000 consoles in total. The giveaway would be realized in much the same way as the Apple iTunes promotion in 2003.

The MTV show will air in the US at 9:30PM EDT. Here's the schedule for the rest of the world:

North America: Thursday, May 12, at 9:30 p.m. (21:30)

I hope they don’t call it 360. An x turned all around is the same x. So what could 360 mean? Also, I hope they don't catch fire like the current Xbox do! lol. I can't wait to get one.

I, however, will wait until all three next-gen consoles are unveiled, then look at the games catalog for each, then decide which one to buy with my hard earned green! I'm pretty sure it will be the XBOX2 though.

I am sure the 360 has something to do with moving totally in 3 dimensional space. Kinda a way of saying no limits because 360 is a circle and can continue forever.

@Liez4Love, why do you say that? I think that they are all equally "overrated" but, that is beacause its all marketing to get ppl to buy the companies stuff when it comes out. I am personally going to do what Toiletman said and what till I can see all 3 of them and there catalogs.

the Xbox is not over-rated, I was PS2 guy for a long time, but after I got a XBOX as a gift (I wasnt that exited at when I got it) it is a much better machine and has better features than the PS2.

Anyways, Im not going to do what I usually do and buying one right when it comes out, Im going to wait until the modding scene catches up with the new consoles, then Ill decide which machine Ill get. If the rumors are true, Im going to wait until the XBOX2pc comes out. That version sound intriguing to me, but that is just a rumor right now.

Athlon 2700+, ASUS A7N8X DLX Mobo, 200 gb Maxtor HD, 128mb Asylum VC, 1 gb Kingston 3200 DDR hyper X <--Man, this system seems like crap now, it was top notch a year and a half ago =(

    XBOX w/ excuter2 & 250 gb HDD, UnleashX Dashboard

Specs released for the new Sony machine thus far seem to smoke the new Microsoft machine. Not that I am saying it will be better, but those of you that think the new BOX will have the same advantages over the new Sony as the XBOX had on the PS2 are wrong. Sony's games are going to be bigger and the processor faster. In the end I think it will come out to be whoever has the best catalog. Nintendo looks sneaky too. Dont underestimate them yet, I think they have something up their sleeve to either blow everyone at E3 away, or it could possibly waft a soft pungent fart and scare everyone away from Nintendo for the rest of eternity. Only time can tell who will win this round.

No it is not called Xenonx or whetever and it is in fact the XBOX 360 and its called that because it is shaped like a sphere and has a 5 disc changer on it. I even have pics. And yes this is all real info. Dont believe me? Go ahead wait till you see it for your self on MTV and then you will know.

Yeah I don´t really get it why they decided over 360 instead of just XBox 2. They must have their money on street-credibility.
