That is a huge screen for a laptop. The only problem would be transportation.

Is Acer a good brand anyways?

I currently have an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop. It's well equipped and the AMD processor is fast. It's a good machine, runs cool, etc., and was cheap when I bought it at Sams Club. In fact, my very first desktop was an Acer, purchased back in 1986 and guess what, it still works! Paid $3,000 for it back then (but all new computers were expensive then). So I guess what I'm saying is yes, Acer is a good brand.

I had never heard of Acer until last fall when my friend bought an Acer laptop. Apparently, though, it is running as good as when he first bought it, and has had no problems with it. I think that Acer's value should increase in the next couple years.
It's like the new Compaq or eMachines, except it is actually... you know... reliable.

Desktop replacement is right, geez...

I don't think I'd but another Acer, I've had some probs with mine. For instance, the hinges started cracking within a month or two, so I shipped it back to be repaired. And now, a couple more months later I'm having the same problem arise. I'm just gonna deal with it though (as long as it doesn't interfere with the functionality, at this point it's really only cosmetic.), 'cause I don't want to have to ship it back to them again... their support is good though.

I want to build my next notebook, sounds like fun ;)

It's a good brand.I think the flat panel montior are a great deal for the price.Make no mistake folks theis company has been around over 30 years but it was mostly austrailian people who had acer's until more recently.

Seems a little...good for a laptop it would be cheaper and more easier to get a desktop for all that...most people who use laptops don't want to game on them don't want to store loads of files on it or want HD...They want something to take to meeting, work or trips, who will buy a laptop with this much power??

Acer has been around forever my aunt had an old acer computer in the 80's and it only had 75 MHz all you could do was type on it....i have a 17" Acer flat panel monitor on my comp now and it works great but that the above comment all that isnt need for a laptop you could buy an awesome pc with all that money....

as for the size, erm my laptop has a 17" widescreen and sometimes it's a bit awkward for travelling with, i can't imagine carrying a 20.1 " laptop around with me and i don't want to try.

I'll pass on the Acer and go with the Toshiba

Granted the screen is 17" but it is higher resolution than the Acer 20.1"

1920x 1200, 16x10 and full 1080p capable, coupled with the built in HD-DVD, EEEEHA!

My sister had bought a laptop at Best Buy, and it was a 19 inch screen.

Don't get me wrong, it was (returned it back) a fantastic laptop, however, it was hard to carry around, and a bit heavy.

Now this 20.1 inch monitor at 17.2 lbs gets quite heavy especially for a petite person.

It's still a wonderful addition, and choice of option, but mobility concerns still remain.

@sdifox yeah good luck with that as you will need it, when you find out how bad toshiba is as a company.I had a toshiba satellite a65 notebook what a peice of junk.Watch what happens.

What the point of such an heavy and big laptop. Its certainly not mobility. I can't even imagine lugging around that thing in my bag. It would literally break my back (ah! my sore back!).

heh,reminds me of the alienware laptops,their top of the line laptops weigh in about 20lbs..ouch!

I agree that it just does'nt make sense to invest that much money in a laptop...i mean you can build a desktop PC that is 10 times more powerful for half the price of that acer and the toshiba quismio.

I figure if anyone pays that much money for either of those laptops,they are rich and have nothing better to do with their money than to buy expensive toys to show off to their friends and barely use it.

How good is Acer as a company???? 11 years ago I purchased 8 Acer PC computers for my business. They were all networked with my Unix Server to run a unix application in a Windows environment. Today 6 of them are still running. Some only had their power supplies replaced and some needed the CPU fan replaced. Have nothing but very high regard for this company and am now seriously considering purchasing this 20in laptop for personal use.

I can't speak from experience but i have read nothing but good things about Acer as a very good company,their pc's and laptops are very well built and last long,even thought its a low end brand,not as popular as HP,compag,toshiba,Dell,apple,gateway but they do have quality in their machines,so i'd say go for it,i would if i was in the market for a laptop,which i am not since i have a P 3 dell latitude,which serves the purpose for what i use it for on the road,email,surfing web,checking ebay..ect

playing around with the G30 and I have to say I am very happy.

I bought a toshiba laptop 2 years ago and after dealing with their customer service (or lack of it) I will NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVEEEEEEERRRRRRRRR make that mistake again.

Mine is a satellite a65 (best buy was running a good deal on it) but I have to say I'm happier with my 1.6 ghz desktop (AMD Athlon XP) with 1 GB of RAM than my 2.8 GHZ laptop (Celeron) with 512 MB of RAM.

If I buy another laptop this will be the one I'll get that's for sure.
