Microsoft couldn't make an anti-virus that WORKED to save their lives! They might as well just GIVE IT UP. They cannot even protect their OS from an attack....so what makes them think they can make an AV program that actually protected a whole computer?
Just plain sad.

They could not do good firewall or media player, why they think they could to (good/working) anti-virus software...
Like webe123 said, just give it up.

Has Microsoft ever done anything original? They just seem to copy everything else.

Classic just plain classic! Guess they haven't mastered copying AV software features that actually find (enough) viruses yet.

It seems to me that you guys are just missing a point...
Anybody can sell a good product. Not much glory in that.
To create a whole line of half baked software products (Windows), with so many holes that they put Swiss cheese manufacturers to shame, AND than to have the chutzpah to sell an equally lame fix (OneCare), while actually charging good money for it takes some balls... if not true talent for salesmanship. So let us put our hands together for those guys...

Vista's Windows Defender could stop a MAC truck, oh wait a minute it only stops legitimate programs, sorry about that.
As to holes in OS's there isn't an OS out there that doesn't have gaping holes in it, not even Linux, MAC, or BE. It would be pretty difficult to fully lock down a system but leave it open enough to manage and work in there is always going to be a back door to exploited.

I knew I would read alot of bashing. Its funny, but I'm sure there's more to this story. I would rather see the other apps and their scores. Maybe 83% was "standard". I really think that McAfee is crap anymore. Would like to see if AVG, AntiVir or Nod32 got a good score.
Of course I use Firefox and other non-MS apps, but what the world be without Windows? (And don't say the many flavors of Linux are the definitive answer.) Honestly, what do you expect when 90% of PC's run MS's product? You will always hear about more problems with the most adopted platform. Just look at the iPod. You would think that 1000 complaints means its junk. Nope, just means the other 30 million out there are working!

My old workplace has this installed and i use the computer with this installed and i find it to be a waste of space on the system when you can find free anti virus software that can do a much better job than Microsoft.
I repeat my self in saying MS stick to Operating Systems.

Did you EVER THINK that MABYE there is a reason for the bashing? Most people know Microsoft is a legal monoply, but as someone pointed out, they have been putting out half-baked products for awhile now.
This has absolutely NOTHING to do with more people using a product and EVERYTHING with making a DECENT product in the first place....and NOW they want to say they can protect a computer from viruses when they cannot even get their others apps stable? Give me a break!

SProdigy you can see the results there is a link to the AV Comparisons site and the PDF results sheet, here is the link to the PDF:
http://www.av-comparatives.org//seiten/ergebnisse/report13.pdf
What they don't tell you is how much of a resource hog they are or how many false alerts there are, it's more geared to just what they know about and if it was recognized or stopped. McAfee and Norton did pretty well, Norton better, but most of us know how crappy they are.

Yeah, for all the MS fanboys...Microsoft was at the BOTTOM of the list. That tell's you something about how BAD MS one care is...it is more like "bargin bin life support care"!!
