Jack Thompson settles with Take Two

19 April 2007 21:42 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 17 comments

Jack Thompson settles with Take Two As reported last month, Take Two sued Jack Thompson in an effort to win a restraining order against him.

According to last boss, Jack Thompson has settled with Take Two, and agreed to the following terms:

-He will not sue or threaten to sue to block sale or distribution of any game published by Take Two or its subsidiaries (i.e., Rockstar)

-He will not communicate to Take Two or anyone doing business with T2 (like, say Wal-Mart) any accusation that the company committed any wrongdoing by selling its games. Thompson is not restricted from criticizing the content of T2 games, nor is he prevented from acting as counsel in lawsuits brought against Take Two by other parties

-He will make any future contacts with T2 through its attorneys

On the other end, Take Two dismissed their claim and dropped the contempt of court charge against Mr Thompson.

It seems for the time being, gamers can play their violent games in peace.

Good! This guy was just plain out of control! Mabye now he will cool his heels with rockstar games.

It should be the parents of a child..not Jack Thompson that decides what they can and cannot play.

Probably this wouldn't stop him for going after other games like Counter-Strike.

Take that @$$hole! He's got other things on his mind now like trying to blame video games for the VT shootings even though the shooter didn't own any games.

What really made me sick was that this scumbag used the tragic shooting at Virginia Tech as a publicity stunt for "his cause". Sick bast^^d.

I am glad take two won this. I grew up with many guns in the house as my father was a police officer and collected guns. He instructed me how to handle them and told me they are not toys and I have been shooting them since I was 8. I also played (and still play) video games that are considered violent. I remember playing games on the computer back in the DOS Days that had swearing and blood and guts in them. The real problem is the subject many people wanna avoid. The problem is in how the child is raised and if they are experiencing other issues in their life that cause them to act in this violent matter. But I guess it is just easier to use the video games and guns as the scapegoat then to go after the real problem.

I hope you don't mean for content?

Since the homophobe before me called Jack a "faggot" I doubt "mother fucking" will offend anyone.

Aside from that the !!!1 was intentional and well known in the lazy world of t3h internets. hehehehehe.

what i don't understand is in the usa they blame games and violent movies, but surly the fact is that ppl are allowed to own guns, if you take the guns away logic suggests there wont be as many gun related incidents especially with minors as guns wouldn't be so readily available. or am i just dumb?

I won't comment on whether you're dumb or not, but consider this: The same logic would indicate that if we could ban alcohol, we would be on our way to a virtual Utopia. Remember how that worked out? If we banned drugs, our society would be a much nicer safer place. Yeah, that's working well. Think of all the successes we've had banning various activities and objects. Not once, not ever, not anywhere or anytime has a BAN on anything ever been successful, and yet we have people who absolutely cannot fathom why anyone would object to their LOGIC.

Not dumb. The problem is I can go to any street USA and buy an illegal handgun in five minutes. We have borders but in this free society everyone thinks we should have a free for all. The U.K. blasts us for our handgun laws and it is easy for them because they don't have to screen borders, just ocean, and a lot less of it. If a couple thousand illegal immigrants can get into the U.S. undetected how hard do you think it is to do the same with guns? I own 3 handguns, a rifle, and a shotgun, all legal. I have never considered killing a human or animal but let some fool assault me or break into my home and I will drop them like a corpse. Want to ban handguns in the U.S.? Make being in possession of one punishable by life imprisonment and the sentence for killing someone with a gun death. Now, mind you, some pansies will cry this to be a cruel and unfair punishment. Of course they seem to forget the person killed by a criminal. For their victim justice is a little late. Do you think abolishing firearms removes the killing mentality?

not to mention the UK has a high knife assault rate not to long ago a kid knifed 8 or 9 people in his school so really scapegoating the tool/weapon is pointless deal with it in a reasonable manor baning is not reasonable because it takes things away from normal citizens and tends to make the black market grow faster IE prohibition.

BTW JT blasted GTA again on the news I hope T2 grinds him to dust for violating the settlement!
