Warner Music and Bertelsmann settle Napster case

Warner Music and Bertelsmann settle Napster case Today, the German media conglomerate Bertlesmann settled with Warner Music for over $110 million.

The agreed settlement is related to Bertlesmann's involvement with the original Napster that was infamous for being the beginning of P2P and mass music piracy. In 2000, Bertlesmann invested heavily in Napster and has been paying for that decision ever since.

In the past year they have settled with Universal for $61 million and EMI for a undisclosed amount.

On-line music piracy existed long before Napster jettisoned into public spotlight. With the advent of P2P scene, it became easier for media and industry PR firms to explain the evil of music sharing to ordinary folks.

For example... who would want to explain the workings of 'ratio-server' to their parents?

Thats some big numbers. Wouldn't the smart thing to do is go with them when they go legit or if they were heading that way. Just imagine how much profit you could have made.
