Hugo Chavez's "Bolivarian Revolution" had decided that any television broadcasts that showed his government in a bad light should be off the air and with that in mind, the government dclined to renew Radio Caracas Televisión's (RCTV) broadcast license and had its transmitter taken over by a state-run channel.
Somewhat surprisingly, RCTV journalists and producers have not been arrested or harrassed and have decided to fight back. The station has been given its own channel on YouTube for the show E1 Observador. CNN reports that a Colombian channel also broadcasts RCTV content into Venezuela.
According to YouTube, the show has been viewed 175,000 times since May and the channel as a whole is the most subscribed to this week.
Many users use the site to avoid censorship and it is possible that YouTube may become as important as TV broadcasts in the future. Hopefully governments, like those in Venezuela, will be powerless to stop it.

Its too bad about this, because Hugo Chavez is a really cool guy otherwise, his Bolivarian missionaries have done wonders for the country, and his communism is working quite well.

What are you, retarded?
He's buying the support of the people for the worst motive of all: taking away their freedoms.
The people have better infrastructure, medicine, but is it worth the price they pay? 'Its too bad' aren't strong enough words. Communism isn't a left wing thing vs a right wing thing. The man is an autocrat, like Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, and Robert Mugabe. He bought their freedoms for a few bridges and some nice toys.
If you silence the opposition, even if it's by not doing something (renewing a license is an example of nonaction that is harmful), you are still oppressing the people.
Think a little before you open your mouth, or put fingers to the keys. How is he a cool guy if he's oppressing the very people he is supposed to be helping? It's not like this is the first time he's been exposed as an autocrat. Why would you be surprised?

Okay
#1 phantasee chill out
#2 When I said "Its too bad" I was referring to the lack of freedom and how it started out well, but its going downhill, so back off.
#3 We are on an electronics forum not a political one so please don't get all upset.
#4 You really sound ignorant and uneducated when you use negative and hurtful statements such as "What are you retarded?" That kind of language doesn't convey intelligence and will not be welcome in the forums. I am friends with several "retarded" people who are both wonderful individuals with valid thoughts and opinions. So what I would recommend is that you edit your post, and then post an apology.
Thank You.

I will apologize for my use of the word 'retarded.' It was inappropriate, and I do regret it. I won't edit my post, because I do not believe in hiding mistakes.
However, do not tell me my political views are unwelcome here when your post expressed your political views.

They are perfectly welcome and appreciated, but please try not to make them so confrontational, that is how flame wars start. I'm not trying to have you censor yourself, just please use a little more discretion.
btw Thank you for admitting you mistake, it takes a big person to do that these days.
