Beatles on iTunes by 2008?

2 June 2007 19:58 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 15 comments

Beatles on iTunes by 2008? According to Olivia Harrison, the widow of Beatle's member George Harrison, the Beatles music catalogue may be coming to iTunes and other legal music download service by early 2008.

Harrison told Reuters, "We just have a few things to work out elsewhere" before the catalogue can be released for digital purchase.

Harrison also noted that one factor for the delay is that a complete remastering of all the CDs is in the works and is taking awhile. "I think we're a little bit behind. We (the band's members and widows) all agree. It's been done. It's just trying to now get it out there."

The Beatles' catalogue will be distributed through EMI meaning they will go online DRM-free.

    At 128kbps who will notice?

256kbps is still pretty far from CD Quality.

My bet is they're holding out for the big bucks, aka be prepared to shell out a premium and also be only able to purchase albums not tracks.

No, I'm pretty sure the problem is that Micheal Jackson owns the rights to about half of the good Beatles tunes out there. I believe much of the problem was convincing/paying him to let the songs be put onto the internet.

So maybe not. But it still might be part of the issue.

By the time they finally do get the songs out on iTunes I doubt they'll have very many sells. Most people don't like to wait, when they think of or here a song they want it now. Therefore peer to peer I'm sure has picked up the slack of slow acting record execs. Stupid cpoyright holders are their own worst enemy. He who hesitates is lost.

The longer they hold out, the fewer of their core fans will be around to appreciate their music.
