BJ's Wholesale Club to become exclusive Blu-ray vendor

BJ's Wholesale Club to become exclusive Blu-ray vendor Following the moves of both Target and Blockbuster, the large chain BJs Wholesale Club has said it will drop HD DVD titles from its shelves and become an exclusive Blu-ray disc vendor starting in the fourth quarter of this year.
Sources familiar with the company's decision said the chain will carry only Blu-ray titles in each of its 170 stores but it may continue to sell both formats on its website.

Recently, Target made a similar move, one that would "increase the presence and support" of Blu-ray titles in its many stores, but it will continue to carry HD DVD, to a small extent.

Now we wait and see what Sam's Club and Costco do.

Then everyone is going to shift attention to Walmart. Once Walmart starts doing this for the bluray camp, then it may just be all downhill for HD.

So that's "exclusive" as in 'not at all exclusive'.....cos they're still selling HD DVD on-line.

Damm
I just bought a Toshiba HD-A2, now I'm starting to wonder is I should sell it again before it's too late?

But as much as I hate and loathe wal-mart, I guess that will be the deal breaker for either format.
HD-DvD FTW!!

Peace all

Target , Blockbuster and BJs Wholesale Club are only selling HD-DVD online, becasue they are just getting rid of whats left over.

WALMART is going blu-ray because they have special promo deals when you buy a ps3. They have HUGE BLU-RAY signs in the electronic section.

Intrestign this act of desperation might pay off it also could leave them falling through the floor, time will only tell if it will work or not.

However, if you look at the facts you will notice that Wally World (aka Wal-Mart) has a near equal selection of HD DVDs, which can be viewed here and Blu-Ray disks which can be viewed here. The difference is a scant 8 title "advantage" in favor of Blu-Ray.

One funny thing, look up "HD DVD Player" on their website and a Blu-Ray player pops up in the search results. On the same token, when you look up "Blu-Ray Player" on their site you get an HD DVD player in the results.

Peace

EDIT: Speaking of "Promotional Deals", Wal*Mart has had an HD DVD promotion going on since March so no one can say they are choosing Blu-Ray. Sure you don't get to pick out of any HD DVD titles but free movies are free movies. The .pdf on the promotion is located here.

Sony is saying we will not lose, like the betamax. They are paying companies to carry there product exclusive while also giving kickback to the studios for choosing blue ray discs. This is how I am seeing this.

Yes but at the same time now is not the time to be muceling for positions, they are wasting capital and showing cards that best not be shown till later in the game.

well if you look at the specs blu-ray is much better.the stores choices are going to force movies studios that are dedicated to hd dvd to change to blu-ray or add it because that will increase their sells.the ps3 is a big deal here because a blu-ray player is in the console unlike xbox 360 where you must purchase the add-on and thats a big reason why blu-ray is looking more of a winner because the only news that ever pops up on afterdawn is blu-ray and ps3.peace

at almost 4mill sales world wide its a freaking niche within a niche thats stuck in a fing niche ,BR is pointless for gaming because the industry is set in a DVD9 mindset, both HDVD and BR are such small niches that the format war will go another 4 years until one gives or the they join under a tree of dual players and halve the studios that will "use" them among them selfs, as greedy and bloody as this war is going I don't really see a happy ending for either side.

So basically they are taking a little risk and taking sides to some extent and then they hope that the Blu-Ray format will win the battle and if it doesn't they still have invested some level in to HD DVD as well.

yea but blu-ray is atleast making an effort that's why many think it will win.and after so many stores going exclusive the future looks bright.but at the moment these formats arent really needed.as soon as i heard about blu-ray and hd dvd i was like "where did that come from" even games on xbox360 and ps3 dont use the capacity of a dvd9 disk.so zippy i kinda agree but its the war highlights we're looking at now and im liking it so far.

Not really, timing is everythign its to soon to start making deals that will blow up in a year,I have a feeling most of these "deal" sony has made will fall threw in a less than 18 months leaving a vunreal gap in sonys cursade,on the other hand they could unnoticed until Hdef goes mainstream and then everyone figures out that BR is the easiest to find...still...these maneuvers are imperfect at best.
