New guide: AC3Filter Installation and Configuration Today we have another new guide, this time on installing and configuring AC3Filter. Like most of the tools I've been writing about recently, AC3Filter is free and yet full featured and quite competitive with commercial alternatives.
In addition to decoding AC-3 (Dolby Digital) audio as the name suggests, it also supports a variety of other sources including DTS and MPEG Audio.

DTS (Digital Theater System) is a audio format similar to Dolby Digital (AC3) and is common on DVD's. It is often regarded as being superior to AC3. This filter (AC3Filter) is capable of decoding AC3, DTS and mpeg audio. It has extensive mixing options and as the article states, it rivals commercial software. This will allow you to decode full 5.1 channel audio tracks via direct show through any media player.

Right'o but what i meant was is it a software Decoder like FFdshow, Im defenitly going to give it a try. does it have a linux Flavor to.

Yes. It's a DirectShow filter, and as far as I know there's no linux version.

I just downloaded stuff like ac3 and fshow. I didnt know I had to config them. Thanks
