PSPgo seeing slow sales in Australia

Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 21 Oct 2009 3:04 User comments (8)

PSPgo seeing slow sales in Australia The new Sony handheld PSPgo is seeing slow sales in Australia, with Michael Ephraim, managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia confirming that only about 1000 units sold in the first week of availability.
The numbers are unsurprising given the high amount of criticisms toward the device and especially its high price, which is AUD 450 in Australia, which is about $415 USD.

"Clearly we haven't done massive numbers but it's not something that we're concerned about ... because there are still some issues that we need to work through," continued Ephraim.

The low numbers can also be attributed to EB Games decision to not stock the console, a sentiment shared by a few other retailers.

It's nice to see that some retailers are boycotting the PSPGo by not having it for sale at their store for the reasons many people have been complaining about.

Wow, $415 in Aus, I don't even want to know the cost of the PS3 there.

shouldn't the title be PSPgo seeing slow sales everywhere

I don't know, but the impression I get from Yahtzee is that aussie take it up the ass with game prices.

we take it up the ass for most consumer goods, but we do have nicer beaches

Haha when the PS3 first came out on the market it was about $1000 AUD. Brand new PS3 or Xbox 360 cost about $100+ AUD. (If I remember correctly when I wanted to pre order Tekken 6 it was about $120 AUD)

This has always annoyed me. Why do we pay so much for video games? Is it import costs or formatting or something? The Australian Dollar is about the same as the US Dollar is it not? Well maybe 10c off but still the prices are a ripoff.

the australian dollar increased to about an average of 92 us cents. but sony is still pricing it as if the dollar is still worth around 70.

so now everything in america is cheaper to us australian. the ps3 in america is around $315 Aus. but in australia it is $500 Aus

The Very high import tax of at least %10 does not help the cost of things there. I would think that Shipping cost add to it also. ???
