Video Daily: U.S. bans truck, bus drivers from texting The federal government has officially banned truckers and bus drivers from texting while on the road, a rule that had been implemented by many of the trucking companies already.
"We want the drivers of big rigs and buses and those who share the roads with them to be safe," says U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. "This is an important safety step, and we will be taking more to eliminate the threat of distracted driving."

What a half-assed law.
So, driving a regular sized car, you can text and endanger all the lives you want?

Funny, texting while driving will get you a fine, but things like putting on makeup, combing your hair, eating, reaching in the back seat, etc are not.

im in australia and its illegal to use a mobile phone while driving a car whether your talking or texting.if they make a law for car drives i think it should apply to truck and bus drivers.

if you do something which causes the car to swerve or endanger other road users it doesn't matter what you were doing in the car you can still get fined or worse.

Im a trucker.. They need to focus on people in four wheel vehicles, such as teens. Driving all over the country I have seen hundreds of teenage girls texting and driving. I seen a guy on a motorcycle driving thru LA steering with one hand and texting with the other. People texting while holding the phone down in by the center console as if no one can see them text.. WTH.. Most trucking accidents are started from fourwheelers acting as if we are invisible to the road. Amazing how truckers are picked on sooo much and without them ALL commerce and business would stop
