iPad will ship with camera?

Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 03 Feb 2010 12:09 User comments (20)

iPad will ship with camera? A few reports have surfaced today that the Apple iPad will likely launch with a camera, despite it not being showed off during Apple's tablet unveiling last week.
A screenshot from the event shows a dot above the screen that looks very much like a camera. A screenshot from the iPad emulator (via the SDK) shows the clear option to "take a photo."

Additionally, Mac repair company Mission Repair is already receiving replacement parts for fixing the iPad, and one employee has showed off a pic of where a camera would fit perfectly.

We will keep you updated.

If it is the same camera they stole for the iPhone, then they might have legal issues with it.

errr.. like something that every phone on the market has is a "selling feature" for apple.. my nokia had a camera 6 years ago.. big deal.. move along.. it's still an over priced thing with no obvious market.

Sorry! It is noth the camera. iPhone and iPad has a sensor. Look on iPhone and you see it also. On iphone we use it for detecting if our face are against the phone if we are calling somebody. iPad you cant call with official! But it does detect how bright the light is in the enviroment and tone down the screen. Apple will never!never! never! Go official with a product and then after a month -Hey its a camera on it!

what? Its a very smart sensor. My dad bought a sonyericsson with touch. Every time he calls somebody his screen belives that he pushing on the screen! Thats a stupid phone. Apple made a sensor sow the screen goes black if your face is close to the screen.! Apple is genius!

Is you dad 190 years old? Why would anyone "push" the phone into their skull while trying to make a phone call?

my samsung j700 turns the screen off after 10 seconds during a call.. usually well before an answer.. what's the "genius"?? They disable the touchscreen feature for the duration of a call.. oh.. like wow.. that doesn't need a sensor to do.. you can do it with the normal fonecall connect/disconnect tones.. (been done by ansafones for 80+ years)

Bet it still doesn't stop it making all kinds of things happen when you have it turned on in a bag or under your arm..

Devils advocate indeed.. but crapple have NEVER had an original idea.. ever..

still nothing new here.

I know you don't care but actualy the same sensor that can tell when your face is against the screen also dims and brightens the screen depending on how bright it is in the room. I would go into more detail but I would be just wasting my time.
Judging by your tone, you obviously just have a problem with Apple. Period. Nothing they do will ever be good enough for you. I own a 3G since they were released and I have never "pocket dialed" anyone or had things happen no matter where I put the phone. Pocket, shirt, coat, bag or car. I think MAC computers are a hunk of crap but the iPhone is king as far as I'm concerned. This iPad thing is retarded. It truly is just an iPod touch with a bigger screen. Might be nice for some but not at those prices.

Personally, i think that a camera on a tablet is damn stupid, mainly because thats what we have digital cameras for. Theyre a hell of alot better and alot more features , and i betcha it definitely wont have autofocus or zoom on it either. Complete waste of timr and money, IMO. - BLUEBOY

Wow Apple haters!

The sensor on the iPhone is VERY slick. If you move the phone away from your yapper during a call, guess what? The screen comes alive without pressing any buttons and...

You can MUTE
You can change the AUDIO FUNCTION (ie. Speaker, Bluetooth, etc.)
You can place the call on HOLD
Add another party to the call.
Or exit the call screen, and check email, texts or other relevant information... which is quite handy when using bluetooth and you need to tell the person on the line what "so and so" sent in an email!

Oh and did they mention it goes dark when next to your face so you don't accidentally mash the buttons? ;-)

it would be good for iChat, face recognition software along with the app store, will create thousands of more useful apps. There is so much things u could do with a front facing camera.

U people need learn how to think

The iPad will be competing with netbooks/notebooks.
The camera is for webcam not photos.

yeah, im pretty sure this is for webcam purposes and such similar to the macbook and such. It sounds stupid to shove a 13" laptop infront of a person and say cheese, but it makes perfect sense to add a webcam to a portable notebook with fun little special effects.

Forget about the camera for a minute... How about flash support on the iPad? That's the biggest turn off for me :(

I can't surf the flash enabled sites on my iPod Touch. So i was hoping that the iPad can do this, but no...
