Crysis 2 complete game 'beta' leaked

Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 13 Feb 2011 12:33 User comments (22)

Crysis 2 complete game 'beta' leaked A full version of the upcoming game, Crysis 2, has been leaked on the Internet this weekend, a full 5 weeks before its official release on March 22nd.
The leaked version is a developer build, and contains all levels.

Additionally, multiplayer allegedly works, and the leak comes with a master key for online authentication.

Many of the features and inscriptions are not final, but the game is complete. Many pirates have noted there are resolution issues as well as bugs.

Electronic Arts has responded, and they are not happy:

Crytek has been alerted that an early incomplete, unfinished build of Crysis 2 has appeared on Torrent sites. Crytek and EA are deeply disappointed by the news. We encourage fans to support the game and the development team by waiting and purchasing the final, polished game on March 22.

Crysis 2 is still in development and promises to be the ultimate action blockbuster as the series’ signature Nanosuit lets you be the weapon as you defend NYC from an alien invasion.

Piracy continues to damage the PC packaged goods market and the PC development community.

PROPER capitalism disagrees, EA.

Well its a good chance to look at what you're getting yourself into.

313.2.2011 02:33

or maybe it was leaked by ea themselves wanting to hype up the game.

many games companies have done this.

I think it is could be so, 3MUK. Who would risk their job, future career, etc just to get a game on the internet?

The reason why I say so is because this is a developer build, not the packaged game that could've been stolen from a pressing plant. It's atypical of how games get leaked early.

Meh, I don't think it was a hype job. Five weeks is a little early. Two makes more sense in my mind...

Not flaming just asking.......What companies and when? Sources?

713.2.2011 13:12

Thats terrible... All the work that these people put in to product is now meaningless with possibly little reward...

I agree. I think it's a publicity stunt.

While I see where people would think a leak is a possible inside job...........because it does make sense, people must realize one thing, leaking too early is numerically and fiscally bad for business. I was just about to download this and decided not to because there's no integrity in doing so. Besides, it's a DirectX 9 version where the proper release will be 11.

If people don't have the money to buy this and actually believe it's alright to use that as an excuse or reason then a public execution is in order for them as if we all took that mentality, then practically NOTHING would be purchased.

It's a given that those shameless, leaching, no-integrity and life suckers will grab this since it's an opportunity, but those with a mind, intelligence and integrity should do otherwise. Besides, this game will be FANTASTIC to play for a long time when it comes out.

I hate to see things like this happen. Some people are always going to pirate what they get without rewarding the developers for their efforts, but it really hurts when it's out there before release date. As a consumer I hate to see the DRM schemes that they keep putting on PC games, but as a realist I can see that they have no choice.

I remember reading a while back about an indie developer that released his product DRM free and had lackluster sales. By simply adding a serial number requirement his sales increased tenfold. That's one of the arguments that always comes up - the pirate wouldn't have bought it anyway. Having the sale increase by 10 times by even the simplest anti-pirate mechanism possible showed that many people will buy it when they can't get it for free.

I have been gaming on computers since the early 80s on an Atari 800 and still prefer them to consoles. I have been hearing for years that PC gaming is dying, and thanks to stuff like this the users are hastening it's demise. I wouldn't doubt that Crytek just says the hell with the PC and Crysis 3 or whatever their next game will only be a console release. Of course console games are pirated too, but it's a lot simpler to do so on the PC.

Is that the key that makes your pirated version "Genuine" and/or does it allow pirates to play online as if they had a retail key?

I think it's as easy on the Wii and PS3 as it is on the PC.

I feel like this is gonna be a sue-fest like The Hurt Locker incident.

I wouldn't doubt it in the least.

1513.2.2011 22:39

I really don't think this will hurt sales...unless the game sucks. If it is any good, this is just advertising. A few hundred pirates playing with a beta can only hurt sales if the game is fundamentally bad, and they let people know about it. Even then, sales are only marginally affected when you are talking about a sequel to one of the biggest games in history.

Not me :D

But I'll probably buy it anyways... Haven't modded my PS3 yet, waiting to see how exactly Sony will go about modders and bans.

"Too consoley"??????????

"Too consoley"??????????

What a senseless, meritless, moronic statement. Maybe Afterdawn looks to "websitey" and homes look too "homey". Perhaps the colors white and black look too "whitey and blacky".

Man o man.....how some people can truly make an ass of themselves when they throw up a simple tiny little statement.

Support genuine pc game developers! This is one of the very few games that have been designed pc first in mind. Leave it alone!
