Netflix angers more customers with buggy Xbox 360 "upgrade"

Lately it seems like Netflix can't take a step without tripping over its own feet. The company's latest debacle is the launch of a new Xbox 360 client which has customers complaining about bugs and missing features.
The new client was rolled out yesterday, following Microsoft's update to the console. It takes advanage of new voice and gesture control capabilities, as well as adding access to audio and subtitle settings.

All of this sounds great in theory. In practice it is apparently quite buggy. Here are some excerpts from customer responses to the new client:

This new app is neither easy to use nor attractive. This should not have made it to release at this stage --- not even past the beta stage. What the heck were you thinking? Subtitles, Kinect, Dolby 5.1? Who cares when the software is AWFUL.

Drives me crazy that I can't view a static screen when selecting what episode to watch. Why do I have to be watching an episode to get to a list of other episodes? Not being able to skip forward/back is a pain, and not being able to restart a feature from the beginning is maddening! Please correct these issues!

The new Netflix app for Xbox 360 is one of the most horrific updates I've ever seen. Instead of moving up, you guys sank to the bottom of the deep blue sea with the new slow, laggy user interface.

Another recurring theme in the responses is complaints about the removal of the Netflix Party feature, allowing people in different locations to watch videos in sync with each other while communicating in real time.

Some people went so far as to say that was their primary reason for using Netflix because it allows them to watch movies with their friends who are in physically remote locations.

With all of Netflix's missteps in the last few months, it seems like an eternity since they were the company who did nearly everything (except perhaps customer service) right. With an unprecedented amount of competition in the market, and new services popping up quickly, this is not the time to be making big mistakes.

I agree that the Netflix for Xbox really sucks. Although I do somewhat like the interface a little but it is really hard to use.

I also agree with the quote about how annoying it is when you are trying to click on Movie or TV show it automatically starts playing in the background. I rather have a static image without it already playing the movie or the first TV episode while I'm trying to navigate to other episodes.

I think this new version shouldn't have been released either and they need to stop rushing and putting out sh*t quality interfaces

Netflix appears to be suffering from common growing pains. When it was pre-adolescent, customer satisfaction was the most important consideration, and we loved our adorable Netflix. Now, it has entered its "teenage" period where it knows what is best for everyone. It has become self-centered and rebellious, and it expects unconditional love. Just wait until puberty starts!

Netflix has shot its wad as far as I'm concerned. I used to be able to watch videos on my Android tablets and they have messed up their authentication so only "approved" tablets will work.. well F them.

Completely agree. I want to contact them to give them a piece of my mind. Taking the bumpers out to where they would skip forward or back is RIDICULOUS! Why would you take a perfectly good function out?! I don't understand why they would get rid of something like the party feature. It was a really neat little feature. I don't know who is in charge of these recent changes across the board for netflix, but someone needs to demote him or something.

I hate it!!! The thing that annoys me the most is when a movie is done, as soon as the credits start to roll, it does the whole "minimize" of the credits and then tells me what I should watch next!!!!

I hate that crap on broadcast televsion and I hate it even more when watching a movie on Netflix! Some people actually DO want to view credits.

You SUCK Netflix!!!!

This is absolutely atrocious. Netflix was the best thing ever on XBOX, and they absolutely broke it. I blame the movies companies. They purposely threatened/told NETFLIX to do this, to start limited they're streaming base. They rather people move to their individual movie streaming sites like HULU and HBO GO, so that eventually when push comes to shove, they start charging everyone and go back more money then they need to regurgitating the same old crap. And then we go back to paying extraordinary amounts for t.v. again, when originally all of these cables companies were suppose to provide free t.v., or paid t.v. with no advertising, as in the original creation of cable t.v. Screw you movie companies, and screw you netflix.

only reason i subscribed to netflix was for the american tv dramas like 24, heroes & prison break. i have been watching them every night because i have lymphoma atm and its helped me keep sane lying in bed not able to move. and as of tonight when i'd signed in, they had all disappeared for good im told. im tottaly devastated by this, it means i might end up spending 100s of £££s on dvd box sets. PLEASE NETFLIX BRING BACK 24 AND PRISON BREAK PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ

Why is it taking so long for my movies or TV shows to start?.? I will select my video, step outside to smoke a cigarette [6 minutes] and when I get back inside, the stupid white ring is STILL SPINNING saying 100% but no playback. I use Xfinity/Comcast for internet, my DL speed is 35.71mbps and UL is 5.1!!! I experience NO LAG while gaming, even when my fiance is streaming YouTube videos and my brother is using facebook all at the same time. I turn off EVERY device except for my XBOX in hopes that the delay will go away, but NO, it still says 100% inside of the stupid spinning white ring... I am about to just cancel this BS Netflix since they can't even seem to get their sh!t together...

I only have a DSL line and it only takes about 15 seconds for a movie to start playing. I don't have any idea why you are have all these problems.

Boo Hoo!

Haven't been a Netflix member since they assumed people no longer were interested renting optical disks via mail. Big mistake.. Doing so has Redbox and the like to pickup the slack while making millions of dollars.

I streamed a few items and saw it sucked.

Guess streaming is okay if you could care less about audio and video quality.

Same issues here. Netflix works fine on all computers in house, on the Wii, and on the DS even but god forbid you try it on the xbox (which is our main viewing source.)

I hate this too. Once the credits start rolling you can't go back to view any other point in the movie without rolling through the entire credits. This is worse than annoying. Does anyone know how to restart the movie when it gets to this point?
