SUPER slow and annoying to deal with. I've only used this software to convert some files online that some ignoramuses decided to use ratDVD to create. No, it doesn't just compress a standard DVD .iso smaller...it uses lossy compression to reduce the file size, just like DVD Shrink and the like. It's SO slow compared to other DVD utils, though.

Ever think about the name of this software "RAT" DVD? How about if I provide a litte background. This software was created as a pre-release version of software that later became DVD anti-piracy software. The point of releasing RAT DVD was to get internet users to test and report bugs. Free testing. After the testing was complete, they stopped updating RAT DVD and roled it into their comercial product that had ant-copy features that were not in RAT DVD. They the term RAT was selected as inside joke. RATS are the people who helped test the product. RATS being people who pirate movies.

im not exactly sure wat this software is used for. does it just make an iso file a smaller iso file? or does it convert it to avi or something? if it doesnt do the latter, it doesnt seem to be all that practical.

That's a wonderful software! I dowloaded a dvd movie in only 8 splitted tracks of about 100Mb each, instead of 44 tracks! Only 8 splitted files, instead of 44! After that, this wondeful software worked in background to resume to the original files, without any crash! Really a wonderful software! Thank you!

The program often crash, and needs 5 hours for transform to DVD, using PC 2000 MHZ with 1 GB Ram. Need QUICK tools for resume and repair corrupted sources. Very good idea, but for now isn't useful.

Program crashes to often and takes to long to run. It needs to add a feature that allows it to resume from the point of the crash and not have to start all over again.

It's kind of sad to see that this proggy won't be updated anymore. :( And what's worse is that the maker of this is producing fluxDVD that has an (for now) unbeatable copy-protection scheme.

This pro has a mind of its own. When it works, its great but the problem is that it crashes a little too often. And i know what Im doing.

I think this program does great quality WHEN it does it. I've had problems with almost every computer I've used it with. If I get it to run (not crash reporting) then I cannot play the created file. I am guessing this might have something to do wiht other codecs like divx and ffdshow. Anyone willing to look into this?? Cause otherwise I think there is no other!

I am starting to backup my Dual Layered originals this way for cost purposes. Quality and features are great. Only drawback with new version is after encoding I get a warning on the bottom of a message saying "Parameter Is Incorrect". Conversion file is fine though!

I liked this program and I found much more practical than other mediums. Is easier to file dvd backups with ratdvd, but is easier to make copies with dvdshrink. It bothers me that id does not (yet) copy protected dvd as dvd shrink does. To the guy that said that it has a troyon. That is a false positive caused by the NSIS setup runtime, not by ratdvd and is well documented in the NSIS web site. And guys, is a free program and it does what it promised, even in beta. Instead of whining because is not perfect please remember that the author does not have any obligation to release/update/debug it. It is an act of generosity, not a debt to your critisism. And is a generosity while risking htheir skin to the hollywood companies... whould you give something away for free knowing that it can get you int troubles?

umm apparently its not perfect considering that its version .7, when a software version is les than one then obviously its buggy or not converting perfectly yet maybe in the future it can convert video as good as dvd shrink while keeping tag and such

Come on you guys, quit bitching...it's still beta, and new versions come out every couple days...ratDVD is the future of compressed internet video. I'm sure it won't be long before the quality catches up with Divx5/Xvid, and being able to store a FULL DVD instead of just the movie file is great.

Well finally I can shrink a full movie and not loose any data.And, I can shrink it to a size that I can either store on my hard drive without cluttering it or with between 4 to 6 other movies on a DVD+R with no noticable deterioration in quality from the origional DVD. The King Rat has arrived.

I don't have a slow computer, yet, this software is DOG slow when converting. Sure if I want to set it before I go to bed and wake to a completed movie, it's great. Otherwise, there is better software out there.

Awesome. That's all I can really say. This piece of software seems to work miracles for my 80 gig hard drive. I like to back up my DVD's, and watch them on my computer with this snazzy widescreen display.. Unfortunately, that has always costed me around 7 gigs.. And a few movies later, I gotta start clearing space on my hard drive.. But wait! Now that ratDVD is out... I can get that 7 gig movie down to.. a little over a gig? Seriously? And the quality is great too. You have to stare really really close to notice the difference between a ratDVD, and a DVD. I already sound like a sales pitch but-- it's that good. Worth the download. In the future, I'd like to see some all-in-one functionality, such as decrypting and removing different forms of protection.. along with deconverting from the ratDVD format to DVDR, and then burning the DVD right from the program. If that were the case.. I'd pay money for it!
