ratDVD takes a full featured DVD movie and puts it into a highly compressed .ratDVD container format file - while preserving all the features of the original DVD such as:
-Full anamorphic picture, seamless branching, multiple video angles, multiple audio channels, subpictures, etc.
-Keep movie versions (Directors Cut, Theatrical version, etc.), Alternate story endings, making of, video commentary , cut scenes, etc..
-Keep complete menus, navigation and features
-Reliable high quality, valid check-summed container.
You can also convert a .ratDVD file back to DVD format, burn it to a DVDR and watch the movie using a regular DVD player.
ratDVD supports metatags similar to ID3 tags in MP3 files. The metatags can contain information about the movie, such as title, actors, year of release, plot outline etc. It can even include a thumbnail of the DVD cover. The information for the tags is automatically retrieved from IMDB.
ratDVD does not support encrypted DVDs. They need to be decrypted before they can be used with ratDVD. For more detailed instructions, please read our ratDVD guide.

1License and operating system information is based on latest version of the software.
Need QUICK tools for resume and repair corrupted sources.
Very good idea, but for now isn't useful.
It needs to add a feature that allows it to resume from the point of the crash and not have to start all over again.
:(
And what's worse is that the maker of this is producing fluxDVD that has an (for now) unbeatable copy-protection scheme.
Conversion file is fine though!
To the guy that said that it has a troyon. That is a false positive caused by the NSIS setup runtime, not by ratdvd and is well documented in the NSIS web site.
And guys, is a free program and it does what it promised, even in beta. Instead of whining because is not perfect please remember that the author does not have any obligation to release/update/debug it. It is an act of generosity, not a debt to your critisism. And is a generosity while risking htheir skin to the hollywood companies... whould you give something away for free knowing that it can get you int troubles?
when a software version is les than one then obviously its buggy or not converting perfectly yet
maybe in the future it can convert video as good as dvd shrink while keeping tag and such

This piece of software seems to work miracles for my 80 gig hard drive. I like to back up my DVD's, and watch them on my computer with this snazzy widescreen display.. Unfortunately, that has always costed me around 7 gigs.. And a few movies later, I gotta start clearing space on my hard drive.. But wait! Now that ratDVD is out... I can get that 7 gig movie down to.. a little over a gig? Seriously?
And the quality is great too. You have to stare really really close to notice the difference between a ratDVD, and a DVD. I already sound like a sales pitch but-- it's that good. Worth the download.
In the future, I'd like to see some all-in-one functionality, such as decrypting and removing different forms of protection.. along with deconverting from the ratDVD format to DVDR, and then burning the DVD right from the program. If that were the case.. I'd pay money for it!
