How Do I Play MKV files on Xbox 360?

MKV files are Matroska multimedia container files; in other words they are audio/video files that you can create and play on your computer if you have the right software. However, since the Xbox 360 added much more multimedia support in late 2007, can MKV files now be played on an Xbox 360?

The short answer is "No", but if that's not a good enough answer (it shouldn't be!) then read on!

While the MKV container is not supported, there is a huge chance that the video and audio stored inside the MKV file can be. So if we can take that video and audio and put it in another container, like AVI or MP4, without re-encoding and diminishing video quality, then we "can" play it. All you need to do is follow these instructions...
