I have 4 of these, I yanked three of them out of the shells and am using them internally and the last I am using as an external. One of the best upgrades I have ever bought for my pc I got all 4 of them for $475.00
I highly recommend using this product.
As for the other guy it seems like he drops things and unfortunately for him pc hardware is quite fragile..

Definitely not good for streaming movie files. I always have to hard reset my media center in order to unfreeze it from idle. If you run it constant then it works but once it sits idle for 3hrs, it's frozen until you either unplug it or hard reset the computer.
That's not ideal for a media center because you want it to operate as a TV does.
I've seen the 500gb work much more smoothly but the price is nice and its great for back ups.
I have had a dosen WD products over the years 2 or 3 broke down and were replaced through their warranty program. In the end if you lose data its your fault for not having a backup of a backup or by enterprise class HDs that fail much rarely than normal ones.

It runs hotter than I care it to run then again its a USB box, it has basic backup features but is SLOW its fine for pictures and small stuff but USB is girding for 200+ MB files that is if you have 800GB of them.
All in all the best thing about this is the same as any branded HDD box it has a simple and small DC apter not a clunky power brick....
I have had a 250gb. a 500gb and now i just bought this 1tb drive and all have worked pretty good so far. There is an overheating issue sometimes but that is easily solved by unplugging it and letting it cool down and then reconnecting it. The two earlier models I have had for years (three i believe) and the 1TB for about six months and I got it cheap, on sale for 89.00
If you want some storage, on the cheap, get one of these, most of the times they are around the 100 dollar mark so they are cheap for being external drives of this size.
Just make sure there is plenty of ventilation for the drive or at least have a fan near it to cool it if you use it extensively, this is the only reason I am giving it a 4 out of 5
ITS CRAP bought one to my brother it broke down after 1day the same happened whith western dihital 500GB on 2 of them now i bought a Iomega 1TB works like a charm even thouhg i droped it in the floor 2times was worried that was the end of it but not.
also bougt a buffalo 1TB to my brother seems to work fine.
MY ADVICE STAY AWAY FROM WD PRODUCTS EVEN THOUGH I FIND THEM TO LOOK PRETTY NICE BUT THATS NOT IMPORNAT IS IT??
SO CONCLUSION= BOUGHT 3 WD HARDDRIVES ALL BROKE DOWN 1AFTER 1DAY THE OTHER 2 AFTER 6-8MONTHS. THINK THEY GET OVER HEATED OR SOMERTHING LIKE THAT
