MusicGiants goes DRM-free with new albums

The high-quality music site MusicGiants announced yesterday that they had begun offering DRM-free music, and that the new release of Paul McCartney's latest album, Memory Almost Full would be the first DRM-free tracks on the site. CEO Scott Bahneman added that the service will be releasing more DRM-free albums later in the year.

MusicGiants got itself noticed by offering high quality lossless tracks in WMA format when it launched last year. Lossless tracks should sound exactly as if they are on a physical CD. The company boasts that it is the only site to offer such high quality tracks.

The site is selling the new McCartney album for $15.29 USD, which is a premium over many other legal music download stores. It is good to see more and more stores moving towards consumer freedom.

Looks like more and more companies are starting to realize that customers hate DRM! Too bad its in WMA oh well. Better WMA and DRM-Free (at least as far as we know) then MP3 and crammed with DRM. Peace [ + quote]

yeah, mp3s cant have DRM, which is why noone wants to offer it to download. i do like the idea of lossless, but they need lossless flac and they are set... [ + quote]

This baffles me!! Why would anybody pay $15.29 to download the album when you can buy the cd from amazon.com for only $9.99 [ + quote]

WMA is a lossless format while MP3 and MP4 formats are lossy even at max resolution. In other words if it was in a MP? format it could not be losless. Get it? Good move in the right direction but it is still not a good deal. [ + quote]

I can't imagine why anyone would want to download anything by Macca in any format and at any price. Life is just to short, but..... i suppose its a free country, at least untill Real ID kicks in. [ + quote]
