Nero announces upcoming Nero 8 release

Nero has today announced the upcoming release of Nero 8, the latest version of the world's best-selling digital multimedia suite. Designed for consumer ease of use, Nero 8 extends content beyond the PC, allowing users to easily create, edit, burn, share, connect, and enjoy digital media files. Additionally, Nero 8 is built to ensure data integrity and reliability and is optimized for use with the new Windows Vista operating system.

The newest version of the Nero burning suite will introduce the newly-designed Nero StartSmart user interface, which maximizes user efficiency with a one-stop solution for creating and managing digital media projects. With this new interface, prime functions like burning and ripping audio and data discs can now be accessed directly, letting users complete projects with one-click functions. Nero 8 also supports a number of next-generation formats with editing, playback, and burning features.

Nero 8 lets users edit photo slide shows and create High Definition video in both Blu-ray BD-AV and HD DVD video formats. In addition, Nero RescueAgent has been developed and integrated based on Nero customer feedback, and allows users to restore deleted files and recover data from CDs and DVDs that may have been lost due to scratched discs, interrupted recording operations, or poor recording quality.

"When we released the first generation of our Nero uite, our goal was to help average PC users easily create and manage their digital lives," said Udo Eberlein, Chief Operating Officer, Nero AG. "With the launch of Nero 8, we are building on this vision, providing consumers with easy-to-use features for the creation, management, and protection of all their multimedia projects. Nero 8 users can simply do more in less time, whether they are converting audio files to MP3 format, editing photo slide shows and videos, or creating an entire home entertainment network with integrated streaming, recording, and playback options for their multimedia files."

Nero 8 will be available worldwide at participating retailers and online on October 1, 2007 and will have a suggested retail price of �69.99. Current Nero users can upgrade to Nero 8 online at a special discounted price.

Gee that sounds great....but if its anything like the past, your gonna need a TOP NOTCH Machine...Dual Core, lots of Ram, etc....to let this puppy run flawlessly...if there is such a thing. just my opinion...but i know i'm not the only one with it ! [ + quote]

I'm not at all impressed with Nero Scout and don't install it nor do I need Nero Home, their great sharing facility. It's OK to offer this stuff for those who can't do this on their own but it shouldn't be forced on you as they have started to do with Nero 7. All software MFG's want to run their programs on your system these days 24/7 and all this bogs your machine down and frankly isn't necessary, Nero Scout & Home are a part of this new methodology unfortunately. At least Nero doesn't tag all of your files like that sh!tty Roxio crap. This seems to be a quick version change Nero 6 was around for quite some time before going to 7 and now we are jumping to 8, they must need more revenue. Unless you're running an old K6 or PII you shouldn't have big problems running Nero I've used it on K6-2's and P3's without issue so if you still are using an old P2 it's probably time to upgrade anyhow. Nero has the best software around Roxio sucks big time. This looks good for file recovery from CD's and DVD's. Great job. [ + quote]

It's not much for a "Top Notch" machine right now. At least if you are in the market for one anyway. I priced a pretty sweet build on newegg for only $1,400 (without a monitor, since I already have 2 19" flat panels). Core 2 duo, 2GB RAM, nvidia 8800, blah blah blah... I wonder if it would be XP 64-bit compatible, because there is no way in the world I would ever install Vista. It's either XP 64 or a 64-bit Linux OS. [ + quote]

I've always loved Nero, and I like their new SmartStart stuff. I've never had a problem running Nero on a slow machine, as long as you don't use their sharing crap. I don't like that stuff either. But I just don't use it, I wish they would let you not install it though. I hope their new recovery works as well as all their other software. I looooooove encoding with Nero, they have the best(in my opinion)quality at a small size, it was very inovative I think. The video that is. Well I hope they don't let me down this time, I for one can't wait!!! [ + quote]

They do let you not install it, you select the programs you want from the installation screen, i don't know what could be simpler than that, just don't choose the default "all programs/typical installation" option. I've always been a fan of the Nero Suite. I don't really like the lite editions, but I've never had a problem burning with the Ultimate Editions. [ + quote]

Nero 6.6 Reloaded is enough for me. I can do without all of the crapware added to later versions. Their current Nero 7 was and still is buggy even now. Avoid it like the plague unless you have a new Windows VISTA operating system and can't use the older software. I don't see Nero 8 going back to the simplicity and reliability of their vintage Nero 5.5x or 6.6 software; so I won't buy it... [ + quote]
