Prince sues YouTube, The Pirate Bay and eBay

13 September 2007 19:58 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 64 comments

Prince sues YouTube, The Pirate Bay and eBay The famous pop star Prince said today that he is planning on suing the infamous public torrent tracker The Pirate Bay as well as YouTube and eBay in an attempt to stop the rampant piracy of his work over the internet.

According to a statement on his personal site, Prince says that while YouTube already filters pornography it does not do the same for music and film content.

Prince is using the British company Web Sheriff to help him remove the pirated materials and so far they have successfully removed over 2000 unauthorized videos but that it is a lost cause as new videos appear daily.

"Prince strongly believes artists as the creators and owners of their music need to reclaim their art," the statement read.

Actually, if you notice, they change it from the initial "why and idiot" to "what and idiot" then "what a idiot."

This comming from they guy that did not make a decent hit in a long time the last album he recently made only had one memorable track musicology and that was it. He already has made enough money and is still doing so i dont see the problem.

See, no offense, but I just don't get that kind of attitude. How can you determine what is enough money? You know the old saying, the definition of "rich" is anyone making $1 more than you...

It's obvious you people have no idea about Prince or what's going on with him and the music industry. Maybe I can clarify a few things for all of you.

    1. He had a disagreement with his publisher/producer so he wanted to stop touring but since he was under contract he would have been sued. So, he changed his name in order to be able to perform while avoiding a law suit. Once you sign with someone, they own your name and image.

Also, there was a period when one of the producers went to the judge and blocked him from changing his name and forced him to perform so he wrote the words SLAVE all over his body & face. Afterwords, the company cancelled his contract.

These tactics that he's used have been successful for him in regards to renegotiating his contract. At one point, he was Vice President of Warner Music and brokered a multi-million dollar deal. All of which was short-lived.

    2. He's only suing company's that distribute pirated music. He has a right to his music.

    Well heres my thoughts:
    1. He has a right to protect his copyright on his music.
    2. He is just throwing money at a lawsuit against a company that has held it's own many times before. Because TPB will probably win, Prince is just throwing his money at them which will result in his mattress being only a hundred miles minus one inch off the ground instead of a hundred miles off the ground.

haha let him throw his money away at Web Sheriff, who im sure justified their services by claiming that all this piracy was loosing him X figure of money and then said we can run this campaign for you for y ammount.

Who is guessing that Y was less than X.

Really let him waste his money as do you really think that paying web sherrif money is going to have any impact thats going to ever make him more money then him payed them is very very miss guided.

    look at this page:

    http://www.websheriff.com/outlaws.htm

i wonder if all these people are their clients, do they have the rights to use there images, does britney know they are displaying booby pictures of her on their site.

"SLAVE", yes, I'll have to try that at work when they call me back. Received a big 12 cent raise this year. All industry in this area is moving out. What is the secret to making a million? Must have missed that one. Going to have to learn to play a guitar and write my songs, too old to be an athlete. Can you get a good start on Myspace or Youtube? What ever happened to Tiny Tim? Boy? George is still around? Do U really want to hurt me? Or is it an Alpha's gene trait? Prince created some good content, just as B. Spears.

I have never been able to stomach Prince or his music, although Purple Rain was possibly good example of its era. Its funny though, one minute he's giving away all his stuff with British newspapers and then suddenly he's going to sue several organisations which are giving him publicity. Audio and video quality on You Tube etc is not HD by any stretch of the imagination so why his oscillating behaviour from one extreme to the other. Perhaps he is bi-polar or suffere from attention deficit disorder, but who can say for sure. My advice to You Tube is pull all his stuff and the sooner the better. Dont let him exploit you to sell his turgid doggerel. My advice to Prince however is that maybe he could take up painting as this would be quieter and more calming.

Some people are just megalomaniacs and feel a need to try to control every aspect of their lives even things that are out of their hands more or less. I'm going to be the one to actually admit to liking Prince's music despite his freakish behavior. It's too bad all his efforts to reignite his career are going to be totally stifled by this action just like 'mullet-baby' Lars Ulrich and his crybaby incident that more or less ruined Metallica's reputation. Oh well it's his choice to make. It's not the eighties any more Princy!
