Redbox extends its rental period

29 October 2007 23:34 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 15 comments

Redbox extends its rental period The DVD Kiosk operator Redbox has announced it is extending its rental return time from 7p.m to 9p.m nationwide.

The company charges $1 USD per night for rentals at its kiosks and so far the company has become pretty popular in high-traffic retail locations such as McDonald’s restaurants and large supermarkets.

“A late meeting, soccer practice, dinner out—7p.m. is sometimes right in the middle of the day,”
said Gary Lancina, VP of marketing for Redbox. “To better accommodate our consumers’ busy lives, Redbox is extending our return time to 9p.m. nationwide.”

Redbox is the largest rental kiosk operator in the U.S. with over 4000 kiosks and in some markets it is the largest DVD rental retailer.

I have been using Red Box for about 3 weeks now and they always had the 9PM return time in my area. I am guessing this was only in a select few areas though.

Great rental service. I would recommend anyone who has one in their area to try it out.

Yea these guys must be making a killing! It's so easy to use and very convenient. They have tons of movie choices to choose from but, about 60 percent of the movies in there are some B rated flick. Like the guy was saying..hey I'm here, might as well get a 99 cent double cheese burger to and maybe a Mcflurry or maybe even a sunday...mmmmm.

They are in Virginia as well. One of the greatest ideas ever. A movie for a day for a $1 (couple this with RipIt4Me/DVD Decrypter and NERO and you have one hell of deal ;-)

Here in Las Vegas,NV. They are in the Albertson's food stores and a few Wal-Mart supercenters. Have not seen one in McDonalds's yet. Got Transformers at 8:30A.M. on the day it was released. Unfortunally it's just the DVD and not the sleeve. Not bad for only $1.00 each

I see how these kiosks are currently all staggered around the U.S. I can see these numbers grow wildly in a very small amount of time.

We lie! We cheat! We steal!

the new buring disc scheme would be awesome if tis a few bucks cheaper than a used DVD ,if they can make it 3-7$ it could well make money for all involved.

Zippy, I agree completely! They have to outdistance competition in that regards!

I wonder if they would eb bright enough to have equipped with 2 or 3 buners as backup options or will it have a retail burner that can do 100 a day and not fry out.

A retail kit+ mantanace + discs(lightscribe prehaps? or some printing setup) will make them 1-3$ by them selfs if the media mafia goes above 2-4$ per disc its dead in teh water,at 8+ you can buy a used DVD....
