Prince wants to sink Pirate Bay

12 November 2007 15:07 by James "Dela" Delahunty | 36 comments

Prince wants to sink Pirate Bay Back in September, Prince let his plans known to target companies and sites including eBay, Pirate Bay and YouTube in a crusade against copyright infringement. Since then, the artist has enlisted the help of the Web Sheriff company to aid in his battle with the Internet. Recently he stirred up controversy by targeting unofficial fan sites with cease and desist letters which seek details on how he would be compensated.

Now it is being reported that Prince is lining up lawyers to take aim at the big fish, the Pirate Bay. As well as targeting the Pirate Bay itself, Web Sheriff will also target companies that advertise on the site. It also will reportedly investigate the Pirate Bay's compliance with Swedish and International tax regulations.

Prince's entourage had previously issued a statement explaining that they are not targeting fans for lawsuits, but instead are seeking out "phoney" sites. Prince Fans United (PFU), a site setup to defend the targeted fan sites dismissed the statement as "confusing, libelous and misleading".

Freak boy (Prince) has to much time on his hands. I guess its a hard life riding through the city with purple tights and a velvet swede fluffy ruffles shirt.

That's certainly how NOT to enlist the love and adoration of your fans. I guess i'm assuming he has them...still.

May the fleas of a thousand camels infest his armpits for targeting his fans.

May he discover the joy of tennis ball size hemorrhoidsfor targeting The Pirate Bay, Ebay, and YouTube.

May he not make another album about all of it.

I'm pretty sure he still does have his fans, anyone catch the superbowl halftime show?

I'm also sure that it isn't Prince alone doing this. Just like Metalica going after Napster in the late 90's, Prince was probably contacted by other smaller people in the business to use him as a figure head because they knew he is a respected name in the music industry and his name and/or rep can't be tarnished by something so insignificant.

Oh yeah, some must be forgetting, or may have been to young to know, but Prince is, and always has been, widely regarded as a sex symbol. As in, his numbers are pretty damn high, if you are following here.

He's taking down fan websites?! Are you serious?!

TPB will laugh at him. TPB has been targeted by companies who have bankrolls much larger than Prince.

    Quote:

It also will reportedly investigate the Pirate Bay's compliance with Swedish and International tax regulations.
That could be bad. I hope TPB has that one figured out. :(
No worries they operate at a loss, no need for any taxes :)

This is great; prince the supposed "artist" obviously doesn't have a clue what he is doing. Just give him enough rope to hang himself and his terrible music will cease to exist.

Do they? I heard somewhere (I can't remember, so I don't know how credible it is) that they are grossing $70,000+/month.

I really hope Prince goes all out to sink Pirate Bay. He really should pour as much resources into it as possible.

Then when he fails it will hopefully knock him down a bit :)

Anyway isn't this the same Prince who GAVE AWAY his last album?

    Stupid stupid man.

What's he so bitter about? He's probably fed up with all the parody and bad impersonation!

He's probably mad at society for dropping him, which is mostly because of his type of music.

LOL! I think you're right! Now, he's trying to make his boring life psychedelic by pursuing P2P sites!

4 things I'd say to Prince.

    1) Get over yourself, you're only making a t*t of yourself.

    2) You stopped needing more money a long time ago. Like many bands have realised the big money isn't in CD/DVD sales (the companies get most of that) it's in merchandise & touring.

    3) Wake up to the new reality, you're happy enough to have all your songs played 'free' over the airwaves (and the new DAB radios can record perfect digital copies and be copied from) so wake up & go with it.

    4) You aren't Jimi Hendrix no matter how much you wish it were so.

....and I bet he'd be really devastated. lol

To go after people who adore him just makes no sense to me. These people are his true fans and he takes them down? I would never buy another album from any of my favorite artists if they ever pulled that one.

As for TPB, I feel sorry that he is going to expend so much time, energy and $$$ for that. He needs better legal counsel. Even if he wins, at what cost? He's already alienated any true fans he did have. When is this going to end?

The way I picture this scene.

TPB is sitting on an enormously high chair with a light shining down only on Prince and his lawyers. They present a case which TPB answers by saying "no", and opening a trap door into another dimension. :)

The man(?) is talking out of his(?) ass, he needs to read up on Swedish law which the Pirate Bay's lawyers know much better than him. I would be seriously surprised if he got anywhere with this.

On a side note: you guys who say that he's alienating his fans with these actions, seem to forget that there will always be enough sheep to buy his crap no matter what, enough anyway to keep his stupid ass rich. Unfortunately. I'd love to see the guy do a daily job.

the reason why prince is doing this is because he can not make good music anymore so hence he is trying to make as much money from the old stuff he has done. stop wasting your time with thi prince and create more music.
