Sony once again denies PSP phone

25 November 2007 18:34 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 18 comments

Sony once again denies PSP phone According to the magazine MCV, Sony has once again squashed the rumors that it will be launching a PSP phone with Sony Ericsson intended for gamers.

A Sony Europe spokesperson is quoted in the magazine as saying the following; “We can categorically state that we are not currently working with Sony Ericsson on any form of PlayStation phone."

“We feel that [SCE co-chief operating officer] Jim Ryan has been misquoted [in saying the idea is 'definitely plausible']."

“We hold constant dialogue with Sony partners – Sony Pictures, the hardware team and Sony Ericsson – but there are no collaborations happening between us on a PSP or PlayStation phone."

"That’s totally untrue – and goes for now and the foreseeable future.”

The rumors have been floating around for months after patents surfaced earlier this year for a "PlayStation themed gaming-enabled mobile phone." Sony Ericsson games boss Peter Ahnegard further fueled the rumors when he stated that consumers would "see a PSP phone before Christmas".

i doubt this will happen anytime soon. Sony should just drop the umd format and let us get games on the usb stick off the internet almost everyone has internet nowadays if they don't then a friend does. It makes the handheld lighter and possible slimmer.

i don't think playing games n a touch screen is much fun pressing the buttons is better

i wonder how high the price would be for a psp phone possibly higher than the iphone price. 600 700 dollars maybe.

I think it would be nice if they put the proper planning together. I think it would sell well besides any or all the bias opinions about Sony. I'd get one.

First the psp uses umd wich makes it big then the processos has to able to minimize the whole game to answer a call or send a message like a windows based system, i dun known i think it would be awesome but it woudl cost at least a 999.99$ plus tax :)

It would be too expensive, even thought i would buy it but what about the rest i don't think it would be fair for most users

what i think they should do is keep the design of the psp and add phone features to it. make it like the sidekick 3.

i dont know why everyone says it would be too expensive, psp as i see it , has the cappability to do it, look at all the homebrew there is, i remember seeing once someone adapting a gps system to a psp, how hard would it be to code something for it being capable of making fonecalls? is 300mhz not enough to power a phone?

Its actually the same as most PDA's. So its just enough to do what they need. Its pretty much up to proper planning and design if they recreate the PSP for that. But the biggest key overall is quality and if they keep the quality high it will sell like hot cakes.

It would be pretty awesome if they actually released an addon (like the camera and GPS) that holds like your sim or something and just added the feature to the XMB. Sounds a bit crazy and unlikely, but that's what I want..lol

EDIT: The addon would include an in-built antenna and whatnot.
