Alright, it really doesn't take an official study to figure this one out. $600 in the US for a phone in the US is ludicrous. Take that same price, convert it to foreign currency, and you've shot yourself in the foot. They can barely afford gas over there, you expect them to save up for a fancy phone? One more for the "Americans are too rich for their own good" argument.

Quote: iPhone too expensive in the UK, reveals study
Wtf, a study? Just take a look at the pricetag and that's it, you don't have study it. I can't believe that they charge this much of a phone that doesn't even have good basic features, such as sms (have you tried iPhone sms system? It sucks pretty bad...).

but what they fail to mention, is that does not include the contract, which could amount to over 900 pounds (1800 dollars) and when there are better phones, like the HTC tyon 2, the question is why did they not put it at a lower price, and get more people. Oh and gogochar, i have to work from home, because the gas is so expensive.

crAPPLE has some big balls.
You'd think the dummies would have learned from the PS3 that customers lean towards prices and that we all don't have the deep pockets that these executives have. $600 to them is just a few hours work at most.
some real dummies indeed. I hope they sell 5% of what they get manufactured. If your a shareholder...best SELL SELL SELL.

Price of tarrif? £35 per month
£35 x 18 months = £630
We can debate the cost of the I-Phone itself until we're blue in the face, but add the cost of the contract charges and it totally kills off any thoughts I ever had of getting one of these gadgets.

Yea well this didn't really need a study. Most people expect a free phone or to pay very little on a contract here.
They also expect MMS and even 3G on the newest phones, some even with GPS.
A few features the iPhone doesn't have. But of course it has WiFi!
But you can rule out using unsecured networks otherwise you'll get arrested, which leaves a scarce network of pay-to-use WiFi spots.
To add more insult as posted the cheapest tarriff is £35/mo over 18 months and the package is rubbish!
Out of interest how much per month can Americans pay on a contract for an iPhone? (With the option of a 6 month contract of course...)
Still people with more money than sense will still buy them and then when Apple release the 2nd version with 3G/MMS etc they will all buy the newer version (Which should be a wonderful price if the person decides to upgrade during their 18 month contract!)

Just checked US prices and they're pretty similar to what they are here in blighty.
Phone cost = $399 or £200-ish
Lowest priced tariff = $59.99pm or £30-ish
Phone and tariff are cheaper, but contract with AT&T is for 24 months instead of 18, which pretty much amounts to the same thing.

@ gogochar:
I don't know where you get your ideas from - Fox, by the sound of it. What makes you think we "can barely afford gas"? We're paying the equivalent of USD 7.75 and yes, we're complaining, but it's not affecting us the way it does you lot. If you had to pay those prices you'd go bust quicker than a camel passes wind.
And as for the "too rich for their own good" bit, dream on buddy. The US is being kept afloat by China, Japan and Saudi Arabia, and when they get out of the USD you lot are in the dumper.
Feel sorry for yourself, my man, not your betters. We won't pay £269 for technology that's three years out of date, simple as that.

Quote: According to a new study performed by Gfk NOP, the Apple iPhone is perceived to be too expensive in the UK, and that most will not purchase due to the high price.
You don't need research to tell you this this is common sense in my book and the only way its going to go down is when the price goes down when time passes and that all these exclusive contracts go down the drain and it becomes mainstream.
