According to a Nintendo spokesperson, the company has lost the battle against unauthorized third-party modification devices for their DS handheld.
"We cannot smash them all", read the spokesperson's quote.
The R4 and M3, just two of the more popular mod devices are microSD readers that fit in the DS's Slot-1 port and allows for the playing of downloaded Roms, as well as music and movies. Both cards retail for the very cheap price of $45 USD and require no drivers.
Unfortunately for Nintendo, these products are technically legal although most if not all are used illegally.

And that's a good thing, because there's alot of crap on the DS. Outside of a few games like Mario Kart, New Super Mario Bros. and Zelda Phantom Hourglass, you're gambling with your $30 purchase sometimes.

I agree. Stop putting out crap games and maybe i'll actually buy a few (but probably not)! At least I can download the game and try it out before thinking about buying it. Come on, Build a Bear Workshop!? Give me a break!

LOL... Were you considering a purchase of Build-A-Bear? ;-) Maybe Hanna Montana or Dogz? At least we're smart enough to know what to avoid, but it's not always that easy (Diddy Kong Racing, I'm talking about you!)
