hopefully that will be under £500. its cheaper though to get a multi drive for the PC (for about £230)

if these dual format machines start to come down further in price then maybe we can leave behind the blu ray vs HD-DVD fan boy wars and both formats will exist side by side despite their differences "maybe" in the same way as dvd+ and dvd- although obviously the tech spec differences between the two HD formats are greater than those between the dvd formats.

I'll be on board when that price falls a bit. I like the idea of being both format capable. Certainly makes retail purchase of movies easier if you're not limited by format prefernce.

The price will halve in 18 months, the more people making and "sharing" dual format hardware designs the cheaper it will get,altho you are more likely be better off with a 400-450$ PS3 (remote is extra) and a 100-180$ HDVD player.

Or just wait and get a finished 360 LOL

Actually it could do more than that

1.quicken the end of one format giving up because of loss of support.
2.force them to join forces as so as they can limit losses.
3.at a 100-200$(coming in 18-30 months) price point they can contunie to divide and conquer the studios until one side engulfs the other.


With sony selling it self off left and right 2 and 3 seem most likely.

I can see Sony selling off their BR stuff to Toshiba and the whole of BR collapsing, now dose that mean BR would ed, no it will either get a much needed make over or be joined with HDVD as a high capacity format,HDVD would be the brunt of next gen formats while BR is for speacail editions and sets that need every bit of the extra space that is if the 100+GB disc are ready for the consumer.

The key factors that makes Samsung's Duo Player overwhelmingly attractive to me is it's ability to output 7.1 analog Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio via both formats, as well as become only the second Blu-Ray player on the market (next to PS3) to have an ethernet connection! I already own a 360 w/HD-DVD add-on and don't plan to plunking down another $500 bucks on a PS3 anytime soon (I'm sorry but $399 w/o PS2 compatibility is stupid!). I have a small library of HD-DVD films, of which 2/3'rds have Dolby TrueHD, which the 360 HD-DVD can't decode, so this is my best option to enjoy both formats for the least money.

Zippy: The ethernet connection is for the HD DVD titles that have web-enabled features like Transformers, Heroes S1, Evan Almighty, Knocked Up etc. It should also enable firmware updates.

When HDDVD drops prices its desperate and when Blu Ray does it it's a greta idea? Did you ever think they needed to drop the price cause they were sitting on the shelf collecting dust? And who in their right mind would buy a stand alone when a PS3 was cheaper anyways?

This is not going to be a trend with future blu ray players for some time to come. If anything, THIS is the fire sale others were blaming the HDDVD prices on.

That will never happen! This is just a big pissing war over who can call the shots. If they could not get together before money was spent, there is no hope for a good solution now.

Well think how much money they can make, the Really big disk space of the blue ray and the ultimate Video quality of the HD DVD,

I'm not going to read through all the posts, but couldn't you get both a hddvd player and a bluray player separate for less than that? $800 bucks could get me a PS3 and a low end hddvd player plus $100 to buy some movies to watch.

I know someone in the US but can't find info on if this is chipped and will only play Region1's, don't wanna go to the hassle of getting it here to have to buy all my dvd's from US!!
So how can I get it in Ireland, dabs.co.uk has is but won't let me register as I'm in Ireland (and here's me thinking we where all friends again :)

The players can be set for any code. There is a secret menu that can be activated and you can set it. I don't know how to activate it for your model. If you buy your disk and want to play it, you can always back it up and remove the code then. This forum has plenty of info on that. That is 100% legal.

Sounds great...until it gets to the price. I wouldn't even consider it until it got down to 400 or less. Less would be bettter.
