CES 2008: Toshiba introduces first ever HD DVD-R/RW notebook Despite the fact that it canceled its CES press conference in light of recent news, Toshiba still went on ahead and announced the introduction of the first ever notebook with a HD DVD-R/RW drive.
The notebook, the Qosmio G45-AV690 boasts many other impressive specs besides the debut of the HD DVD writable drive. It features "an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 processor, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT GPU, 3GB of DDR2 memory, a 320GB HDD, 17" 1080p display, 5.1 surround sound, HDMI output, an OpenCable (OCUR) HDTV tuner and four Harman Kardon stereo speakers with an integrated subwoofer."

“The Qosmio continues to lead the computer industry in terms of high-definition capabilities by bringing many of the most advanced technologies together into a solid and cohesive machine,”
said Toshiba's Jeff Barney. “In a digital world that is driven by power cloaked in simplicity, the Qosmio G45-AV690 is the central hub of a user’s personal Digital Ecosystem, providing users with the ability to enjoy their HD content, while expressing themselves more fully in a digital world, and using HD DVD as a personal means of doing so.”

The notebook is available now and holds a hefty $3200 USD price tag.

Besides writing the article, I'm also going to stop the flamewar before it begins. I do NOT want to hear one word about Warner or their decision. I hope this is clear.

Well the beta vcr was around for a while after the war ended. Im sure toshiba had big plans for the hd-dvd and all the extra's that were going to be released in the future, better to give them out now than to throw them away. RIP HD-DVD......... I do not have a blu-ray or an hd-dvd and am proud of it. I have an up-conversion dvd player and hdtv that suits me just fine.

Ok, whoever came up with that price is surely a nutter. That type of price is definitley not for the average consumor when you can get fairly good laptops today for no more then $1000. It does have nice features(I'm pretty sure anyone would take one despite HD-DVD's latest hit), but I think I can wait 5 years for a price drop.

Sounds heavy too...

I really like the speakers that Toshiba puts on some of their laptops. I'm sure this one is no different. If only they had opted for a better video card I think some gamers might have been more interested.

Toshiba laptops are great here in peru there are very high altitude places. like 5000m from the level of the sea even more , at that altitude the only laptos that work are the toshiba ones, vaio hp nahh they just load windos forever till they turn off and nevr work again.

It happened to alot a friends so toshiba it's the way to go about the hd-dvd player not so sure about it now that blu-ray time it's starting

Thank you DVDBack, the format flame wars are getting extremely annoying.

I like Toshiba's...And the specs are great, but that's freakin' salty! Looks like on hell of a machine though.

Well I think this is going the right direction. I don't pay any attention to this stupid format war anyhow. Untill I can buy a spindle of the latest format for 30$, burn my files to them, then I don't see any reason go to any one format right now. But I like how burners are starting to be sold in laptops....this will eventually bring burning media cheaper and cheaper.

Hey what do you guys think of Fujistu Laptops? I had one, but only one, and it seems to last forever! Well built in my opinion. What other laptops are well built to last you think?

Holy crap! They make laptops now too?

I like Apples :)

Apples are trendy, but I was thinking about laptops with functional usability when it comes to Linux. Anyhow......"Rolls Eyes" aside from the apple comment anyone have a good experience with Fujitsu laptops?

My first two cars didn't cost that much...together. :) That was a few years ago though.

I keep looking at all the specs on that machine, holy cow. Then i keep seeing the price.
