HP outsold Dell in PC market for 2007

Hewlett-Packard outsold its largest rival Dell in the PC market for 2007, one year after the two companies split the market.

According to Gartner Inc., a research firm, HP held 18.2 percent of the market compared to Dell's 14.3. Last year, 2006, each company held 15.9 percent.

"HP established a solid number one position in 2007,'' Gartner analyst Mikako Kitagawa told Bloomberg. "Robust consumer and mobile PC sales across all regions were two main drivers of HP's overall growth.''

Although the figures are slightly different, research firm IDC released the same result. They showed HP with a market share of 18.8 percent compared to a 14.9 percent share for Dell.

Another data figure of note was the increase of PC shipments by the top 5 manufacturers. HP's shipments rose 30 percent while Dell only rose 1.7 percent.

I just bought another HP laptop on Boxing Day... I buy them because they've been good with me since I bought my first HP in 2001, so why not stick with them? That one is still running fast and solid too, and it was refurbished. I like Macs better now, but when I buy PCs they're usually HP(or Compaq, same thing). [ + quote]

yea i agree, mac are great and all, but are too expensive. theyre always 1000+, and you can get a laptop just as good as a mac for less than 1000, just with a windows OS instead. [ + quote]

Well if HP did something right, it looks like in the U.S. Dell did something a little better. According to this article, Dell replaced HP as the #1 selling manufacturer in America. [ + quote]

I did build my desktop. My laptop on the other hand, i just buy with all the fun little upgrades. And some people prefer to buy as opposed to building there own pc's. So, i don't think it's a matter of common sense so much as a matter of personal preference. My life never began with "once upon a time" so why would i expect it to end with "happily ever after"? Not everyone is able to build a working pc, but I must say that I'm surprised that so many people prefer hp, my cousin had about 3 hp desktops and he had more problems than my dell pc. I must admit that for me dell is the way to go. [ + quote]

I've never had any problems with mine and his crashes every couple months and he has to do a recouvery :P [ + quote]

HP beats dell any day of the week thats a no brainier. Well in my book any brand of computers beat Dell. Tells you how much i think of dell. [ + quote]
